  1. I thought it might be interesting to start a thread on Polar product problems and experiences. So, using the format below, please describe your Garmin product, the problem and subsequent experience. No discussions on the problems please, start a new thread for that. If it proves useful, maybe the thread could be made a sticky. Polar product: When purchased: New/ second-hand: When did problem occur: Describe problem: Describe solution: Cost involved:
  2. Bobcat, there is a group riding from Durbanville every Tuesday evening 18:00. But there are enough bike routes and riders to find someone to ride with. Let us know your plans and we'll see what we can do.
  3. The CS200 is a fairly basic unit. I don't think it has the "seek sensor" function but I may be wrong.
  4. I've been using a very basic Hope 1 light. It doesn't through a wide light so doesn't really work on the handlebars, but I put mine on my helmet and where I look, there's light. And it works with AA batteries which is great if you do 24-hour events.
  5. Unfortunately I won't be able to make 18:00, but I'll probably do my usual evening Tygerberg -> Spes Bona -> Tygerberg route again from 18:30. Maybe we'll cross each other somewhere. And no rain tonight, just cold.
  6. Sou graag wou join, Wannabe, maar gaan Citrusdal toe. Blykbaar lekker nuwe single track!
  7. Just my thoughts on the support drivers: 1. Some vehicles were not equipped for the terrain. I still feel for the poor lady in her Volvo - what an experience she must've had! But personally I feel the organisers should've made it clear that a off-road 4x4 with an experienced driver is required for the route. I did inform them of the 4x4 Community Forum who will be able to assist with support. 2. I did not encounter any support vehicles giving the riders hassles. In fact, I had a silver Triton patiently waiting behind me and my partner on the technical up-hills without trying to push past or put pressure on us. However the rules are clear: report bad drivers. 3. In a 24 hour race, the field is spread very wide and I think support drivers can offer valuable assistance. This is not a function of the size of the field - slow riders will take 22 hours and fast riders 9.
  8. Ek is so opgewonde soos 'n kind voor Kersfees!
  9. First TB? What a "vuurdoop". Do it again next year so that you've at least done one through the Kloof. It is really awesome!
  10. Good luck with that. Looks like we'll be heading into a strong headwind (35km/h south westerly) from Patensie to Jeffrey's.
  11. I'm sure they didn't make the decision lightly. One guy from the 4x4 Community Forum went to the Baviaanskloof over the weekend and Smitskraal was a meter deep (over the headlights of the vehicle). That is pretty deep! Now imagine they need to get to someone on the other side of the river. That will mean driving about 500km around the kloof to get there! It's not the organisers fault. I love the Baviaanskloof, but will make most of the new route!
  12. Ag, that sucks. I was looking forward to another ride through the Kloof. Shouldn't the name now change to "TransGrootrivier"?
  13. The "urgent" newsflash on the website is an updated list of riders. That's it.
  14. It is 5 days before the race. What's going on with the route and why don't we hear anything (official)?
  15. It'll probably arrive in November.
  16. Oh, man, tomorrow's ride sounds like so much fun and the weather is great. But I have the TransBaviaans this Saturday so need to rest. Enjoy!
  17. I hear a rumour that the route is being changed due to the water crossings. Has anyone heard something similar? There's nothing on the website so I am wondering about the accuracy of the rumour.
  18. "Bumped" from D to B. BUT! If I understand the new system correctly, there should be two numbers, one for MTB and one for road. I only have one: B. Now is that my MTB number or road? They are very explicit in their communication that the two numbers will most likely differ. Does anyone know what's going on? (I have done numerous MTB and road events - with my MTB)
  19. I saved my energy for Delvera as I know I make mistakes when I get tired. I am very glad I did! How much was the total climb on the 75km? 2500m?
