  2. Holding thumbs Cois, may this be the dark before the light ????
  3. Look what just arrived ???? Flipping FARRst delivery!!
  4. Done! Now the fun really begins!!
  5. ???? How did you know???
  6. No, wait, I’ve just worked it out... I’ll be looking after it, for a little while, for somebody else ????
  7. ????We have a loft... but every now and then someone gets it into their head to go up there...or a tile comes off the roof and there’s a leak... Also, can’t always guarantee I’ll be first to meet the courier at the door ????
  8. Here we go... I'm waiting to the 25th to see if my kidney gets the money in the bank as planned, then hopefully no one else has bought MY frame yet There is going to be poop about this at home I know, but, hey. I even asked some friends yesterday if, um, they could look after the frame for a bit, you know? It's not a small thing to hide in the house!!! Both my bikes are "vintage". The roadie is in good shape but the MTB (26", v-brakes ) is 17 going on 18 now
  9. Kind of where I am right now!!
  10. Oh dear. I didn't know I REALLY need one of these, but, now it seems I do... I'm on the short side at 1.63m in thick socks. Had a look at your sizing chart and think the small frame will do, based on my road bike geometry (50cm frame). What do you think? Please tell me it won't (WILL!!) fit?!?
  11. Hi Cois, thanks for this! Don't know why I never thought of CANSA - will see about that here. We do have a great Hospice that runs a support group too. She has a friend she looks up to who had breast cancer who is giving her support and advice. So far she seems to be doing everything right but has a lot of pain at times. She is avoiding opioids for as long as she can. I mentioned cannabis oil but neither of us know much about it or where to get it. Presumably it's now legal so does she need a prescription or something? The irony is it was a state doctor who took 2 hours to do a history and thorough exam and worked out what was wrong, whereas the private doctors she had gone to repeatedly prescribed antibiotics. I cannot get my head around that. However, the focus is on the future, now. Her name is Nox (Noxolo). I will tell her about you and I know she will pray for you too. Take care. Like I said, you may feel everything is a battle and you have little to contribute right now because you have to focus on beating this, but actually, you ARE contributing and HAVE helped me and Nox. So hang onto that thought when things get tough! PS Nox has a four-year old boy so it was me who had tears streaming down my face when I read about the puppy earlier in this thread (*insert upside-down smiley here).
  12. Hello Cois, been having a few battles of our own so I haven’t been checking in much on the hub lately but you are never far from my thoughts. This is going to sound odd but by sharing your experiences with us you’ve given me strength to deal with stuff in a way that I didn’t know I could. My partner is going through a very rough time health-wise but more than that a friend has recently been diagnosed with stage 3b cervical cancer. She didn’t leave it late but has been back and forth trying to get a diagnosis for ages. What was/is cancer was diagnosed as infections. Last week she thought she was going to start chemo but was told to go home. The cancer has spread to her kidneys. She can only get a booking for radiation in November, as her only option is through public health. Someone is trying to get her in earlier elsewhere but for now she is just trying to hang in there. So on one of her good days we met for coffee, a long chat, some tears, some laughs and lots of hugs. I’m not good at this stuff and I can’t say why or how but somehow you have touched me with your fight so that I have been able to reach out just a little to her. You and everyone participating in this thread.... Cois, please take both arms, wrap them tight around yourself and give yourself a big hug from me.
  13. Hammer works for me but High 5 Zero is really good too. And SlowMag fizzles in the back pocket can be a life-saver. Yes, people can say what they like about training time/distance intensity etc. Obviously it is going to undo you if you don't train properly, or hydrate properly, but for me cramps are not always directly related to these things. I can be doing 100km+ regularly with a fast group (well, for me!) and do fine, but then go do a short, easy ride in good weather and start cramping from the beginning. So from experience and lots of thinking about it I worked out for me sugar is a definite kicker. Coke especially but other sweet stuff as well. I don't generally eat/drink stuff with sugar in it but when I do, even without exercising, I will be prone to (or actually get) cramp, just doing nothing! Don't underestimate diet!
  14. No matter what I do I often run into this problem. Obviously if it’s hot make sure you’re drinking enough electrolytes. Something like Hammer’s endurolytes. I find things like Rehydrate which is excellent have too much sugar for me and sugar is one of my cramp triggers!So... the best is to keep Crampease spray handy and use as necessary. Start with a squirt under your tongue when the twitches start. Works like a bomb.
  15. It's coz people like me went up a group
  16. Anybody have advice on large-breed puppy feeding, from 5-6 months onwards? What are your monsters chomping? Our chomper is FINALLY catching up and growing like a bomb. M'lord's Royal Canin Junior obviously suits him, but I'm wondering what experience/advice people have?
  17. HA, you can't possibly be worse than me last year I OWNED the fight from the back
  18. Little trail dog in the making?? Starting to settle in well and growing like a bomb! Have to keep pinching myself, there was a week I thought we’d never get to see him ???? I moved the bikes so they won’t fall on him but he keeps finding them...
  19. Good news!! We brought him home just over a week ago still rather sick. Not eating. Bit of a scare last weekend with bloody poops and diarrhea BUT Monday was a turning point. So we’re doing well and he’s growing again, and developing into a tiny little doglet.Lots of cooking and feeding. Not much time for anything else! Plus some complications as we haven’t been able to integrate him into the family properly yet. I was scared I might break him he was so vulnerable when he arrived but now... we have a little black piranha on our hands ???? Haven’t had the energy to get the camera out but here he is in cellphone snapshot glory. PS I am so chuffed but still think about his brother and sisters. His brother was gorgeous and we almost chose him... Parvo is absolutely devastating. So tell your friends as well: just do the inoculations!
  20. I can second this, having seen a friend go through treatment in the Eastern Cape where some things might not have been working but the drugs were there and the doctors excellent.Don’t be afraid to ask for help, any help, should you need it. Hospice for example was an excellent source of support for my friend and his wife when things got a bit rough. He has been in good health for 5 years now. Wishing you and your family all the best!
  21. Fingers crossed, beginning to make plans to get him home... His sister died Friday night and he was nearly euthanased on Saturday morning... that is three of four sick puppies in three days. BUT he started getting a bit stronger. Not eating on his own yet, but he is eating! All on his own, cannot be in contact with the remaining siblings. So we will see how to bring him home with as little stress as possible. I can say this here, because... the bicycle saved my sanity this weekend.
  22. I think I owe you guys a photo. Here’s the SPCA girl
