    Who knows

Sounds like CSA "tax" issue. Who has warned you?
  2. Entries have been open for just two weeks and already we have lots of PE and East London folk lining up. YAY! Also guys from Tarka and Queenstown. Look forward to seeing you Sunday 13th July. It's going to be a blast!
  3. Ah no fabes, come do the Oldenburgia Trail Run (choice of 10 or 22km) on Saturday and G2C on Sunday instead!
  4. 2014 is the second year Saints & Sinners Cycling Club is running this event. Based on the fantastic response we enjoyed in 2013, we are offering more entries for 2014, but please be sure to get yours in early to avoid disappointment! Goody bags and medals are guaranteed for the first 400 online entries taken by the cut-off date - Friday 4 July.
  5. Event Name: G2C -- Pennypinchers Grahamstown2Sea 13 JULY When: 13 July 2014 Where: Grahamstown to Port Alfred, Eastern Cape, Eastern Cape Category: MTB Entries are open!! Track, dirt and serious fun! Hosted by Saints & Sinners Cycling Club, the Pennypinchers G2C is a fast, fun and furious 58km ride from the hills to the sea. Start: Grahamstown, Pennypinchers warehouse, off Rautenbach Road Finish: Port Alfred, Rosehill Mall, just off the R72 The route takes riders over Mountain Drive via jeep track, followed by a rock-n-roll technical drop past the toposcope, down through the fast, windy Woesthill pass and on beyond Southwell to the coast. BUT, riders beware: it's not all downhill! Last year's winning break came on one of the long uphills, so you have to be sharp at the front end! And then there's the sting in the tail: some really awesome cross-country riding through donga and over yonder dale that spits you out at the finish and will leave a smile on anyone's face. The course is suitable for all kinds of riders -- ride it or race it, the choice is yours! Route profile and map available on the event website -- www.grahamstown2sea.co.za G2C takes place on 13 July, the last day of the National Arts Festival, so Festinos, bring your bike! You don't want to miss this one!! Start is 8h30 - plenty of time if you want to drive in from out of town. Return transport for you and your bike from Port Alfred to Grahamstown is available (limited, subject to availability and pre-booked). Cost R150 (online entries) or R200 (late entries, limited and subject to availability). Go to Event Page
  6. Funny, I have narrow feet!! BUT, the 3 straps allow for all sorts. And they are the bizniz for walking in, for sure. For some reason I also found my cleats work better clipping in and out on them as well. Maybe because they're Shimano?
  7. Shimano XC30?? Worth a look... I'm happy. And should be in your price range.

I rode back to Pinelands about that time. Was HECTIC. I took my buff off at the finish so my helmet (which has excellent ventilation) was a little loose. Riding down past the castle the wind lifted it off my head, dragging it up and backwards. Thought I might fly off like Mary Poppins. Most scary piece of riding!!!
  9. There's something fishy about those results... Nevermind lots of double entries, look at the men's top averages as well! I think the 55km riders may be mixed up in this lot... Expect to see some changes.
  10. According to Giant's list of SA dealers, there is one supplier in the area and, surprise, it's not these boys... woza woza
  11. Any legal folk who can comment on this? CSA's 'weapon' against clubs and event organizers seems to be first, their own insistence that if the event is timed, or longer than 20km (from their regulations) then participants must be licensed. Second is a piece of legislation, the Safety at Sports and Recreational events Act 2/2010, which they use to threaten/call the police to close an event... How do those with a mind for legal matters read all this? I can understand that one needs safety plans etc, which is what the Act is intended to ensure, but how do we go from that to having to pay CSA in whichever way it dictates?
  12. We are looking into something like this! And there are some great routes on public dirt roads too, with plenty of climbing. So we are definitely spoilt for choice.
  13. Hi Cassie, we're in Cuyler Street, between High Street and New Street. That's not far from the post office & cathedral, & for anyone who had a tertiary 'education' at Rhodes, just up from the Vic - Victoria Hotel, which is still there. So come say hi!
  14. Of course!! G=XXX but don't try solving for Y! Many more people cycling here compared to even a few years ago - and cycling of all kinds. We had a brilliant first MTB race to the coast in July (G2C). It's on again for next year, organized by our club, Saints & Sinners, which also runs a hill climb 4-race series twice a year.... Then there are night rides on Wednesdays. Lots happening! Anyone passing through town, come say hi to us at The Motion Shop. More details like how to find us on our website: www.motionshop.co.za Saints & Sinners also has a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/410704928998618/?ref=ts&fref=ts or just search for Saints and Sinners Cycling Club Grahamstown on Facebook.
  15. Job needs someone who knows their derailleur from their derrière - and yes, who can use a computer to do admin. But most of all you would need a passion for all kinds of cycling and an interest in learning about bikes, customers and the industry. The admin will only be boring if you don't like bicycles and working with mechanics and customers! The Motion Shop is just 3 years old but growing rapidly, with huge heart and passion. So you'll be part of a small team with an interesting and challenging set of responsibilities. This is my LBS - and also my job that I've really enjoyed learning to do! For the right person, the job will grow around you as you become part of the team. So, no - it's definitely not going to be boring! How can keeping people who ride bikes happy with their bikes and bits (and bling) not be fun?

Same here. Just got this SMS - about 1.5 hrs too late: If you experienced difficulties paying for your Cycle Tour entry: Please do not re-attempt to pay until we email you an instruction to do so. I tried about 5 times first entry attempt, so lucky it ONLY went off twice!!

D No. You are automatically kicked off the system so you go back to the beginning. But don't bother yet: Message last updated: 13:57 Our payment service provider is experiencing problems. We will resume entries once that has been resolved.

What a joke. Can't make payment. Can't hold onto place in the system to go back and COMPLETE payment. Nice one Nedbank/VCS or whoever it is who stuffed this up.
