  1. Brilliant! Cycling and... dark chocolate FTW. This post has made me sooo happy ????????????
  2. Keep me in the loop on that one please, I may need to go that route too... also trying to balance the budget here with work-arounds and available parts ????????
  3. Can say that. It's been a long time for me and now I have a little cash we can all see where it's going If the work keeps coming it's possible I could single-handedly rescue the industry as all my stuff is now considered vintage....
  4. Thanks, super-chuffed as it's a while since my bike got a present Have just opened the box... so here goes
  5. Shnap ????Arrived today. Been watching it travel around the country on the courier’s tracking system????
  6. I’m good at asking dumb questions and know nada nothing nix about disc brakes really (except try get it right from the start) so here goes... is it not possible to swop out the flat mount caliper for a post mount one on the front?? You get single post mount TRP hydros so maybe something like that??
  7. Or you could use the Ultegra until the GRX 812 rear derailleur is available? If you can’t source one now?https://www.bike24.com/p2322800.html Looks like we’re having similar dilemmas. The new Shimano gravel/road groupset bits looked like a win for me until I realized (it seems) it’s either 1x11 with a wide range 11-42 cassette or 2x11 with medium range 11-32. And availability is not good at this point since the launch hasn’t seen stock becoming available yet. Online options are also blocked for us. I think the older 10 speed Shimano MTB and road bits are compatible but finding those and making sure they work is also a problem. Unless you want to wait, it looks like SRAM is pretty much the only way to go at the moment. Pity.
  8. Cois, thanks for the update. Really appreciate it. No cannabis oil? On doctor’s instructions? There was a lab raided a week or so ago that was clearly producing for medical purposes. I just don’t get it!! Hope that this week leaves you stronger even if you are feeling tired. Take care - you are a total inspiration!
  9. This. And for my own reasons I truly cannot stand HR people. They seem to have lost all the H and maybe the R too. Generalization I know but...Blooming fascist bureaucrats is all they are. Sorry Cois!!
  10. Then there’s also this https://road.cc/content/feature/246424-how-get-ultra-low-gearing-gravel-bike-adventures Using a 105 R7000 GS rear derailleur with an 11-40 (possibly 42) cassette... but I wonder about wear and tear? It’s being done though!!
  11. What have you got to work with? 11 speed 105 shifters? Hydros?Shimano has the new GRX system that should be becoming available... rear derailleur with long cage that handles wide range cassette on 1x11 (But not 2x11 it seems) that might interest you. RX812 or something like that I think. Will run with existing 11 speed road shifters so negates the need to switch to SRAM. Other options too but the GRX800 series seems to be what you need to get out of the 11-32 range.
  12. Thanks, was getting conflicting info on this... Interesting to see how the different builds are done and options becoming available. I understand the advantages of flat mount on the frame but not sure why there isn't an adaptor for the fork? Must be plenty folks running this combo. I see it on a lot on touring bikes and CX bikes adapted for touring. Oh well. Carbon shmarbon
  13. Not uncommon either. Just means going with post mount and getting a flat mount adapter OR buying flat and post mount calipers from the start, it seems.I needed to be sure this is what to do so now I know what to work with. This is the stuff you don’t have to trouble with when you buy a ready built bike but I like to do stuff the hard way ???? For me, anyway!
  14. To take this on I knew I’d be in for some learning so... I asked the question just to be clear. Happy that I did because this is what I thought might be the case although someone who knows most things assured me you get adaptors for both.Building a bike like this the way I want it means running into industry standards and trying to work around them so it’s no design fault and it’s clear on everything I ever saw from Farrnus what the frame and fork standards are. So, no problem there! Shimano has recently launched its GRX groupset so that potentially solves some problems, like getting a decent crankset and long travel derailleur that works with drop bar shifters. Plenty other options and probably much easier if you throw money at it or go for flat bars but, hey, where’s the fun in that?? It’s going to be awesome when it’s done!!
  15. Thanks!! I did see that... but best to avoid if possible then.Advantage of buying TRPs is they have both options available so no problem there. But it rules out other brake sets like maybe the GRX I think (although I’d have to check). Thought I was being dense getting posts and flats muddled but apparently not.
  16. Please indulge an idiot for a moment, and so just to be absolutely clear, my understanding is I can use a flat mount set (fitting the rear) but need to get a flat mount to post mount adapter for the fork, rather than the other way round??
  17. Brilliant! That ratio should do most stuff (besides the walking bits ) Goals may shift here too due to impatience. But this is going to be THE bike for long, long rides... Keep us updated
  18. If the NHI plan was to be even vaguely in the park I'd support it just to avoid all the medical aid admin that seems to require a degree to manage yet designed to give you a whole new illness! Hoops and hurdles you don't need now but they must pay if it was an admin error. Not the time to sweat about it. Trust you'll come right!
  19. You’ll be up and riding well before me ????I’m still going round in mental circles trying to source stuff (that I can afford) and figure out what I want (that I can afford)! But that’s why I’m doing this. Learned so much already... Crank - had to order a 105 in 165mm and the wait for that is 2 months as Shimano distributors don’t have stock (yawn...) So in the meantime I’ve discovered the GRX range which is what I’ll go for to get the gearing I want but now to work out what I can bodge with that and what not... so I’m back to thinking of a mix of 105 and GRX (crank and derailleur) using mechanical disks like yours as TRP sounds like a better system than the Avids! ???????? If you’re going to run a 1x crankset what derailleur (and cassette range) are you using?
  20. Did you come right with the post mount to flat mount adapter for the rear??
  21. Let’s see that frame!! ????I’m shorrtttt. So about 8cm shorter than you?! Sizing seems to be same as my roadbike (50cm) which is very comfortable, possibly a little bit longer in the reach, but then there’s bars and stems to play with. Think I’m going to bite the bullet and do the gravel bars and 105 groupset and see how that goes. Found a special on the older 105 disc brake set that could work. So maybe a Hope bb as well (this is budget time!). Then we will ride ????
  22. I can’t stop looking at it... looks like drool marks on the floor already! I’m going to take a bit of time over building it to do it justice I think.Although it’s screaming for a long outing already!
