  1. They come in different sizes. S/M, M/L, XL. And it depends on how far you are running and how much kit you will need. I use the Skinset 5. It has 5l of packing space and up to 3.5l of fluids. It can hold enough kit and food for a whole days hike.
  2. Nothing compares to the Salomon vests when it comes to comfort. Even fully loaded with 3l of water and enough kit for a 100km you barely notice it. No bobbing and shaking even when running flat out.
  3. After suffering with itb for a few months I also asked my Dr about the ITB release surgery, he immediately refused to even refer me to an orthopedic surgeon, just told me to stop running completely for 3months. Very old school GP I must add. Obviously I didn't stop running completely, but tried not to aggravate it further. After about 6 months in total it just went away over night. Touch wood its fine since then. Its a real frustrating condition.
  4. Last year I received my refund within 24h. Will wait and see this time around.
  5. I probably wont follow the programme, just need to decide on a direction and prepare mentally. Atm I don't belong to a club, but will obviously in the near future. Currently Im also just sticking to the basics. One long run (+-2h) a few tempo runs and TT every week. Doing about 40/50 a week. Will slowly increase that as I get more conditioned.
  6. Just a quick question to previous Comrades finishers. How do you decide on wich training program to follow? Im a relatively new runner, started running on and off about 18months ago, but the last 6 months Ive started to run more structured and with less injuries. Ive had a look at the coach Parry programmes and looking at the PBs he recommends for each medal I fit in to the Bill Rowan group, my PBs are almost exactly the same as those. But I haven't done a marathon before. Will it be stupid to prepare for a BR, and should I rather concentrate on a bronze, or just go for a finish the first time out?
  7. Try the Mr Price Compression shorts, they fit me better than most brand names and the quality feels better. Oh and you can buy three for R750.
  8. She is obviously getting fitter than you.
  9. This is a 25km trail loop just outside of Bloem. Gives you just over 800m in about 10km, and then some crazy decending.
  10. Did a 18km run on Sunday, total elevation was 40m. And I seeked out all the hills????
  11. Im sure I saw them just before the finish, think they finished comfortably.
  12. Did you ask them to do the bounce test?
  13. Who is planning on doing their first Comrades next year?
  14. The best thing you can do with an ankle twist is to keep running. Unless your tows face backwards or you see bones sticking out.
  15. My boy Ozzy
  16. Depends on the make. Most cheapies ie Trojan have a standard incline of almost 3%, wich cant be adjusted. The proper treadmills can be adjusted from 0% upwards.
  17. Camber is an itb killer. I still switch to different sides of the road every km or so. Or just run on the white line.
  18. You come to a point where minutes feels like hours and seconds like minutes. In the beginning gains are easy and quick, but the faster you become the harder it gets. Sub90 21km is super fast for mere mortals. I can do a 1h45 HM with some ease, but a sub 1h40 is way out of my reach atm. I got my 5km down from 29min to just over 21mins in a few months, but breaking 21mins is just not coming.
  19. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/248129-tomtom-runners-gps-watch/ Tomtom watch,if anyone is interested.
  20. While I was injured I forced a smaller stride with quicker cadence. While it helped my injury I got slower and my running style was becoming more of a shuffle, mainly because I couldn't maintain the higher cadence. So I think the key is to find the perfect balance between stride and cadence.
  21. They might have big stride lengths, but cadence of 190+ and front landing just infront of COM. If you have a big stride and you plant your foot way infront of your body you will be very inefficient and probably get injured.
  22. Huge special on Brookes shoes and Garmin watches on onedayonly.
  23. Is anyone on here using the Suunto Ambit3 Run?
