  1. Running poles become a god send when you do long steep climbs, especially on tired legs. Make sure you can pack them in your hydration bag when not needed. Running with them is a schlep.
  2. A higher cadence mitigated most of my niggles. But I went from a 155/160 spm heel stomper to 175+ spm with a little bit more of a midfoot landing.
  3. Did the Black Mountain Extreme trail run in Thaba Nchu today. 27km with 900m vertical ascending. Route is unmarked trough rugged bush with no support. So it was just over 4hours of suffering, but definitely one of the best races Ive done. Great experience for 4peaks and Skyrun.
  4. Definitely something else going on in there. I sprained my ankle really bad exactly 2 weeks ago. But managed it with a soft cast and compression for a week and then some light stretching. Did a 21k today with no pain during or after.
  5. Im in Pretoria for a couple of weeks, are there any runs/races you guys are aware of? I've looked on Facebook and it seems that there is a 21km on the 17th in Lynnwood somewhere? I'll appreciate any info thanks!
  6. Will go to the Dr today, atleast the swelling is better today. Hopefully its just soft tissue.
  7. So after a 6 month lay off due to injury I finally started running about 3 weeks ago, slowly building up distance. Yesterday about 2 km into what should have been a long run I stepped on a rock and twisted my ankle. All though painfull at first the pain quickly dissapated and I managed to do about 14km before the ankle started to stiffen up. When I took off my shoe I found this. So bloody frustrating.
  8. Dont know Zinplex, I just use Vital. There is some mixed reviews on the effectiveness, but it really works for me.
  9. Zinc, do some reading, but one of the best supplements to reduce the severity and duration of colds.
  10. Im finally up and running again, so my goal is just to get better than where I were 5 months ago. Sub 21min 5k, 45min 10km, 1h40 half. And then to get strong enough for Sky Run 65k.
  11. Glute exercises is the only thing that will get rid of itbs. No amount of rubbing, resting or rolling will work.
  12. Start strenghning your glutes while you wait for the phisio. 10 min a day of glute specific exercises and your itb will be gone in no time. And rest to clear up the inflamation.
  13. Not saying its shin splints or a sf, but mine also started like that. Tried to run it off, big mistake. I then took off 3 weeks and it felt fine, I could even run comfortably again, but it suddenly came back after one fast run, stupid again. Resting it properly now and doing rehab. When Im able to start running again it will be for 3 minutes a day and slowly working it up. I had some other injuries before, nothing is as frustrating as shin splints, not really sore but you are constantly aware of it. And it can turn into a nightmare in no time.
  14. A GP wont be of much help and a running specialist of no help what so ever. Go to a phisio asap. Im out with a stress reaction for 12 weeks now, part due to google diagnosis. Stop running, go to a phisio and do the rehab. And whenever you start running again stop immediately with the slightest pain.
  15. They are two seasoned pros, not knowing the rules is just a silly excuse. Heidi was by far the best rider on the day and deserves the jersey.
  16. If you cant keep up, atleast look the part????
  17. Funny that Bikemarket never seems to lose out..
  18. New kit sorted, now just to start running again!
  19. And business is booming.
  20. If his money is real I couldn't care less what he does with the item Im selling.
  21. Is the price of R32 500 more than market related value? If not then there is no issue here.
  22. New kid in the house, Ozzy.
  23. I went to Bios and physios for some time now. They sorted my runners knee and itb, but Ive been struggling with shin splints for some time now. I have a daily routine targeting all the major running muscle groups, so dont think the problem is there. The cost is not that bad, its R1700 wich includes custom running 3d milled orthotics and the feet and gait assessment.
