  5. left fork leg...wont the rotor be in the way ? If you mount above the rotor you might find the the sensor/magnet are to far apart. Otherwise, I dont see why it would make a difference if the sensor is upside down or not
  6. HI Guys...hope that you all had a good time at Karkloof. I was out there yesterday and the trails are great..a little slippery here and there from the rain but majority easily ridable. Just a word of advise. The official trail head is Karkloof Club. Please do not go out and start riding from other areas without reporting at Karkloof Club first and paying the trail fee/completing the Sappi Indemnity. We also discourage riders shuttling out on the routes because we have strict rules about transporting people/bikes on the back of vehicles and people parking in restricted areas (e.g. the airfield/timber loading zones etc). Riders are running the risk of getting us banned from the Sappi forests due to irresponsible behaviour. We can really understand the lure of riding the Karkloof Trails as Enduro routes, but Rene's Rumble (and other sections) are actually part of the marked routes and there will be other riders out on them. Please be aware of this. There are no dedicated Enduro Trails at the moment, but we are working on this and will hopefully have something sorted soon. You are more than welcome to ride out from the trail head (the club) and use sections of the routes for Enduro riding, but please do not shuttle up and down, unless is part of a official and recognised event.
  7. Burrys Bike Park is at Bali Hai, Umtentweni, KZN Sth Coast. "On Friday 3rd of January 2014, there will be a memorial service at 17.00pm. All welcome, please bring a candle. More info and directions available at www.kznmtb.co.za (see Latest News) For those who cant make it to Bali Hai, there will be another ride at Karkloof MTB Club, organised by local MTBikers and supported/endorsed by the Stander family. All proceeds from this ride will be donated to the Burry Stander Foundation

  9. Again slightly off topic...but watching this (and knowing Bonzan and his work ethic/commitment) made me think... Because sometimes we forget how much happens behind the scenes, how much Mountain Biking means to others and how something we do for fun can carve out a future for someone like Jay http://vimeo.com/74365178
  10. @ Super_mil...thanks for sharing. The more that see it (and adhere to it) the better. Slightly off topic but for those who think a little bit of smoke is nothing to worry about...read http://www.thehubsa....re-fires-fires/ The closure of trails is not to spite the riders or anything like that. If there is a fire the riders have to be evacuated from the area and you can imagine how hard it is to track them down when they out on a ride..they could be anywhere! If you think you can outride a fire..think again..you will end up well done one one side and crispy on the other.
  11. Hi all...just a heads up.. Please note that Howick/Karkloof trails are closed as from sundown on Wednesday 18 Sept.High FDI predicted for Thurs/Fri. Closure effective until further notice. Please report any smoke/fires immediately to the Lions River Fire Protection Office on 033 330 6369 or 073 704 5862 Daily Fire Index status can be followed on Twitter @fire_index Will be setting out a marked 20/30km route on Howick side in the next few weeks...
  12. @farringdon and @sidewinder....thanks for the feedback. I serve on the Karkloof MTB Committee and we are always trying to keep the trails fresh and exciting. Really good to hear that they are being enjoyed. The 15km route is relatively new but its getting great reviews The outback trails are exactly that...the outback. These are not as well maintained or marked as the regular routes, but they include some of the best riding in the area. You could easily put in over 60km of pure singletrack riding
  13. Just remember that there is a trail fee for both Karkloof and Howick. SAPPI Indemnity compulsory and PLEASE adhere to Fire Danger Index...if the trails are closed, dont ride.

  20. Heading out to the Howick trails tomorrow for a late afternoon 20km/25km ride. Not far ..but then again I am not a roadie Its about having fun
  21. Hey Skandalis.. Not to sure of the details...I havent been up there for ages. Hylton Turvey (master karkloof trail builder) just mentioned that he wanted to tweak it a bit. Knowing Hyton (who is a kick ass all mtn/enduro rider) that could mean taking a 2m drop off and adding a ring of fire.
  22. Popped some details in for you under Strechys post. PM me if you need anything else
  23. Exactamundo Stretchy Best part is that the district rd basically takes you straight through the middle of some of the best singletrack Karkloof has Make sure you turn left and go up Khyber pass though...otherwise you heading up Lebanon pass and into the farmlands lol. Khyber is about 9km/10km in (if you cross over a low level bridge, you gone too far!) Khyber is not signposted but there is a plaque at the bottom commemorating the first glided flight in history...apparently even before the Wright Brothers. If you go up Khyber, be onthe lookout for riders crossing the road...we tend to come out of the singletrack pretty quick Also, about half way up, look to your right and if you in the right spot you will be able to see the Gauntlet Once you get to the Curries Post Rd (easy to ID cause its tar). you can turn left to go to Curries Post (great coffee at Terbedore) or go right and you will come out at Mount West (also known as Stonehaven). From there its not far to Nottingham Rd. You could then carry on with the R103 which will take you back to Howick. Along the R103 you will find the Bierfassel (German food and BEER), Rawdons (more BEER!), Born in Africa (Shoes...for the ..umm...non cyclist), The Mandela Monument, Belgian Chocolate Factory (yum!) and LOTS of others.
  24. @enjoi.. If its close to Karkloof Canopy Tours then its about 20km to Howick . Howick to Cascades is about 25km. Work on approx 45min to get from the Lodge to Cascades. I know the area but honestly haven't been to the Lodge before. The photos on the webpage do look nice though.
