  1. I am unable to find any online entry info for this event. The event organiser Elmarie Eksteen does not reply to emails. Any info on this event would be appreciated.
  2. Thanks. Would you be so kind as to post the sub vet results (top 3)?
  3. Had same situation. Customs and its employees are all (without exception) useless. The guy that is suppose to sort these type of problems NEVER answers his phone or return any calls. Forget about getting your money back.
  4. Well organised race with a lot of "gutter" racing - it may have been flat but the crosswind made it a good challenge. One major problem I had was that I found the route dangerous: high speed racing does not combine well with narrow district roads with high scalloped shoulders, high volume traffic from the opposite direction, slower riders being lapped. Despite the organisers doing everything in their power to make the race safe, I felt very exposed to the risk of serious injury. I usually compete in MTB events. This has been my first road race in a long time. I am interested to hear other opinions.
  5. "rigid"....tight pants.....under the belt humour....tough crowd...
  6. Riding rigid can be embarassing at times - especially when wearing lycra. But hey, I'm just glad to hear you are enjoying your riding!
  7. In 1997 extensive research was done with regards carrying or pushing your mtb. Taking into consideration the run-in angle, the gradient, the tortuosity of the trail, tyre tread type and bicycle weight - you either push or carry depending on which FEELS like less effort.
  8. If you are not in top shape - lose weight (off your belly) first
  9. I disagree. Most cyclists peak in their late 20's and early 30's. Your best chance at a champion for 2016 is to groom someone that is already a top elite - whether Buys or another (even older) elite. If we have a world class under 23 by all means pick him - at this point in time we don't....
  10. Mmmm. Saw a guy walking on the highway the other day. Since all of us walk from time to time I find myself wondering why no one makes a fuss about that....
  11. I am a Cytomax fan, but am willing to try new products if the new product provides me with scientific proof that it works better. We know that simple carbs (sugars)work during a race (compare to water) - we have lots of scientific proof. Low GI drinks have been around for a while now, but I am still holding my breath for scientific (randomized controlled trials) that the stuff works 1. Better than water 2. Better than conventional energy drinks Perhaps the guys from 32GI can help shed some light?
  12. Depends whether you drinking local or imported Seriously, one or two wont do harm.
  13. Oops. Sorry, one month early (rough day- as far as Fridays goes)! Doc assured me penicillin would sort it out...not so sure it worked . What the hell, anyone keen on this weekend anyway?
  14. Did the race take place on 2 April (as originally scheduled)? If not, what about this weekend?
  15. If you are serious enough about mtb and riding the Epic (and able to afford an entry), my advice would be to rather bite the (price) bullet and buy a carbon mtb. If a new carbon bike is out of your price range, go for a 2nd hand bike.
  16. What are the conditions looking like? Will this year's race be as wet as last year? I hope we don't have to mission through the same mud patch again this year!
  17. I am visiting Cape Town for the weekend. Unfotunately I will not be able to bring my roadbike along, but am desperate to do a road ride on Saturday morning.I would be very grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction as to where I could rent a roadbike for the day.
  18. No it means either you are a mechanic or have a lot of money to spend on parts and service.
  19. Specialized is still building 26" bikes, definitely more than 29" bikes. A dual sus 26" costs more than equavalent 29" HT. The argument that it is all marketing tricks to sell more bikes doesn't make any sense.
  20. Eating too much sugar does not cause diabetes - being overweight and having a genetic predisposition causes type II diabetes.
  21. You need to specify ratios for 26" and 29" wheels in your poll....
  22. I ride SS because : 1. It is fun 2. It is the purest form of cycling - no gadgets, no noise 2. It is simple 3. There is a great deal of satisfaction knowing you can ride (almost) everything nature can throw at you with only one gear (and a rigid fork). 4. Hell yeah - because its fu*king cool! 5. And lastly I like the look on your face when I whip your as# with only one gear! (without me having to ever tell you or any other rider that I have only one gear - me knowing it is enough)
  23. No Ameiden. Ameiden town consists of three Sappi houses near the top of the climb. The dirt road to Ameiden starts roughly 2km out of Barberton (past the prison).
  24. The MTN race used two other climbs for the ultra-marathon.
  25. Climb from Barberton on the Ameiden road : this climb has got to be one of the toughest in S.A. I rode up and over the climb into the plantations a few days ago, but forgot my Garmin at home! Does anyone know what the distance and elevation is from the base to the rain forest section? Where does the road lead? - I had to turn around after doing a few kilometers in the plantations.
