  1. I can vouch for Cango marathon, great race and good organization. Probably get hold of the organiser and check with them. Also George has a good few options.
  2. As she has said, she went there for something and went all out for it. Didn't have it on the day and that's something i respect
  3. Carla is running and going for the UK & EU women's record. She is in really good form at the moment and running really well after LEJOG, I have done a few long speed endurance sessions with her over the last few months. Expect her to go well on the run. JW is going for the record for sure.
  4. StockX is a legit source as strange as it looks.
  5. Are you trying to be divisive? Put somebody in the shoes and give them a light to follow and off they go and break the record? Technology drives advances. Records have always been broken by individuals that embrace the tech, Bekele was using the best tech available when he set the record. The use of lights is not new, it was first done in the 90's. What has likely had a bigger impact is a different approach to pacing. Even splits across the event as opposed to all out and hang on, the changes in this has been fairly central to the records that have fallen in the last 12-18 months. A lot of athletes use gps watches and now even power measuring devices while running (not to mention the in cycling) to measure effort.
  6. I normally do 3 100 mile weeks leading up to Comrades, by the time I get to these weeks I really enjoy them and feel better after them. I space them about 3-4 weeks apart and the last one is with 6 weeks to go. I wouldn't do them for anything other than Ultra training and they work for me.
  7. Nike have dropped the Turbo's from the Peg Range, the 37's are more racier than the previous versions but still and all round shoe. The Zoom's & Streaks are the more price conscious racers and are great. NB makes some options 1400/1500/Hanzo that often come in at a reasonable price.
  8. In that case, you are probably doing the right thing. Manage the cycling to keep a level of base fitness and get out there and improve the running. As Dave mentioned, I would suggest you mix up the running though. Some of the runs should be a slightly lower intensity, you will benefit from this. Even if that means run/walk for now and then throw in a intensity session on the bike every other week.
  9. I'm not a knower, however here are my thoughts. Why did you drop your FTP? What do you mean negatively affecting your cycling? Do you need drop the intensity/FTP for a reason? I find that if I do a hard Zwift session, I suffer on my interval running the next day. (just started riding again after 4 years off the bike) but I feel that the riding is improving my running slowly. Getting a good hamstring and glute workout without the impact. If do a low intensity zwift session (1.5-2.5w/kg avg) it is a good active recovery session and my body benefits from it and has little to no effect on my running the next day. I am improving my cycling fitness but its impossible not to because it is such a low base. You are likely to either maintain or see only a slight loss in fitness if you are maintaining the number of sessions/time on the bike however you will certainly lose form by doing what you are. Without the intensity sessions you are unlikely to improve or maintain form. If you are okay with that -you say you are - then no problem. Your consistent running and riding will certainly maintain your levels or only see a slight reduction.
  10. Which is what a certain very fast American Trail runner was insinuating not that long ago. He took a fair amount of heat from RSA social media.
  11. Outside of the distance variable between the Up and the Down, another factor to consider is that up until 60k (Hillcrest) into the Down you are still net uphill. It only really starts dropping in the last 30k. Then you have to factor in the physical aspect. For the stronger (faster) runners will benefit from the last 30k in pace terms and if you look through the results of the top 20 men you can often see this reflected. However on Fields etc you can't take maximum advantage on the drop without doing significant damage to your legs. The overall hammering your legs take on the last 30k is substantial and left many runners with their dreams disappearing as fast as. So you have had to work really hard up until 60k mark to keep your pace up and then have to push hard on those fatigued legs. it is a very different dynamic transitioning from a decent like Fields on to the relative flat of the highway around Pinetown. On the up run, you effectively plateau from 40km (Botha's) and have far easier down gradients to run which means your legs get beaten less and can maintain a steadier pace. My personal experience is that my legs are far more fatigued and broken on the Down than the Up. I feel more able of taking advantage of the drop from Umlaas road to Ashburton. 5-10 seconds per km over that distance is significant, don't discount how hard that is to do and maintain for 90km. For me that's the difference between T20 and winning the race.
  12. Sure, they still don't use GPS's to measure official courses though. We all seem to be on the same page. Great performance by RD
  13. Disclaimer: I'm sceptical that it is accurate enough to be considered a genuine PB time. It is however a fantastic performance. His GPS was showing -17m asl and where is was is avg 9m asl - that's a big misread on the gps At the end of the day, GPS isn't good enough and it isn't a measured course. He could go out and get it measured, it isn't worth it imho. Seems to have had a rolling start. Was drafting a bicycle He mentions a 25 kph wind, on the course he was on it would have done more harm than benefit. Only one DW straight, two cross and one head wind. That's *** hard to run fast in. certainly makes an even better performance. As for the Olympic year, that idea got realistically shelved a while ago. Most athletes would have likely adjusted training substantially knowing they need another 12 months to get to a peak. He also should have been no where near a peak yet. Probably close to his bigger loads if he is doing periodized block training. At the end of the day, huge performance but possibly shouldn't have made a big thing about the PB. He probably would have been called out either way, because the time is that good.
  14. He was pretty much running that pace at Ineos 159, so you would expect him to get it done. Especially since he has called it out.
  15. I gathered that, it isn't reflective, semi elite working Joe's can hang with our local elites. Most of them (sponsored) wouldn't/don't hack it at a conti level. They are glorified show ponies, yes I went there. The truly elite ones are not racing here by and large. I don't know the local tri scene but I would imagine it is similar.
  16. Elite Tri's are crazy fit, however they can't mix with elite cyclists. This is just not true. I can't think of one of them that would be able to finish a WT race in a meaningful position - Nino couldn't and there is no doubt he pushes some serious watts. Only a few Elite Cyclists can cross over disciplines between cycling. MvDP, Stybar, Vos, PFP, Aerts are current riders. Don't make the mistake of comparing local events and elite Athletes. Elite Tri's are great at what they do, multiple discipline races.
  17. RD has provided the proof, and its a crazy fast time. He was always going to take flack for it, a damned if you do, damned if you don't. He will definitely have created some hype around himself and maybe got the competition thinking a little. Which if that was his aim, he has achieved it. As somebody pointed out. The Ingebritson brothers haven't done that on the track yet. Two things that need to be Q on his run. It is not a measured course It was a rolling start He was moto* pacedThe course could have been short or long, so he could just as easily been even quicker. But it is hard to claim PB on your GPS only. A quick comparison: his gps shows -15m avg elevation and topo maps show avg of +9m Rolling start makes a huge difference, just ask anybody trying to hit a target pace on an interval. Moto pacing also helps massively, yes in a race you get to draft other athletes but this is generally not as efficient and then tactics come into play. People are going to question it, and at some point they look like D!ckheads for being trolls. It was a good even a great effort but with the above he doesn't come out clean either. My position, take it for what it is. A really great training run that shows how much damage he can do to his competition. Move on.
  18. My understanding is this is going to limited, as long as you in the top 10 you are okay. Although I could have this completely wrong. They have cut it for the third party apps as well. Agreed on the route planner, there are so many options for this. It just means switching to another platform. Are these changes going to drive subscription, I'm not convinced.
  19. That was an interesting comment indeed, but then that particular individual seems to say a lot of rather strange things. Probably best ignored most of the time. Track stars? Are those the same as our MTB'ing legends in their own minds stars? They are 20-25 seconds off Oly Q std, let alone competing for medals. The SA mentality of being good at local races makes you a star. Now that is BS. RD has the upper hand on them there, he has done it on the big stage in his discipline.
  20. I would say that a tracki s measured, non assisted and hard to be net downhill
  21. I've looked through a lot of the thread - assuming Cuan's - I thinking suggesting he called it BS is a little strong. He accepts RD is capable of it, and does ask for stats. Why can't he ask for the proof? Agree the triathlete part isn't necessary, but running sub 2:50m/km is properly quick for anybody especially on the road. Only one local athlete has gone under 14:00 this year on the track and RD would need to improve by 19 seconds from his PB on the track. Last year 3. It's a big call.
  22. If it's a measured course. Loads of people claim PB's on unmeasured courses or assisted courses and if we are talking elite/semi elite then it matters. It probably doesn't matter to Karen doing her PB at the local schools fun run.
  23. They can definitely question it, doesn't make them haters. There aren't a lot of local runners that can do that on the road at the moment. RD has the potential to run that fast, but if you are going to claim a PB it better be legit. If you do a race that's advertised as a 10k and you get the end and your garmin along with majority says 9.7km and you get a 90 sec PB do you claim it? Same the other way round, it ends up being 10.3km and you miss your PB by 5 sec, do subtract and say you got a PB? He posted it on SM without any context at all, and said the video would drop in week - it maybe absolutely legit and that would be great. Nevertheless an improvement should be acknowledged and look forward to him doing it in a race. Do you consider Kipchoge's WR or the Ineos run his PB?
  24. As the others have said, why change if you are happy? What are you looking to gain from changing? Speed/comfort/cushioning etc? It might help with some alternate suggestions? Brands all have good and not so good models, it depends what you are looking for?
