  1. I perhaps have a really stupid question. but when it comes to trail vs road running, what type of 'effort ratio' should one work off of? as in what distance trail run would be the equivalent of a 5km, 10km and 21km road run? I am super interested in giving a trail run a go at a local mtb trail (which allows runners) but dont want to set the bar too high so that I am put off.
  2. Thanks very much guys. I will be doing the Robor race in Benoni Will finish and let the running Gods decide my fate afterwards *Edit: I suppose adding a one or two casual runs during the week into the mix can't hurt?
  3. Hi everyone, I have a bit of a question for everyone here. I have agreed, with a mate, that I will be running my first ever 21km at Robor in April. However, I have not been following a 21km running plan at all. with that being said, I definitely getting fitter and faster. My parkrun time has come down by about 8 minutes and can comfortably run at about 06:00/km to 06:20/km (I am not very quick, I am running for enjoyment and to just say I have completed a 21km). Furthermore, I feel like I have somewhat of distance in me, after completing a few 10km and 15km races. With that being said, should I be worried about not following a structured plan for the race? Or will I be okay to 'finish' (am targeting a 2h30m) in April based on average fitness?
  4. Lekker. Better perforamance and economy. Revo agents know what they are doing!
  5. You have to put an 'after installation' pic up, or it doesn't count! I also had a great system in my previous car. Used to push 141db, now my current car is standard but you have me thinking..... (I am a huge music fan, and listen to all my music at max volume most of the time) Also, what tune are you going to have done at revo? just a tune up? or going to do software?
  6. Any race reports from Johnson Crane?
  7. Good to hear that you already have made adjustments. If it continues i would try cutting caffeine and alcohol out entirely. I find with myself, even just a single beer/wine/whiskey can give me reflux the next day. Other than that, perhaps a trip to a gastroenterologist.
  8. I suffer severely from reflux as a result of the chemotherapy I had. Not just during runs, but everyday as well. My first thing I would look at is your diet. Avoid coffee, smoking, alcohol and chilli/spicy foods completely. This does about 60% of the job. the other 40% is Topzole (but im sure trustan is just as good, I'm not a pharmacist).
  9. Quick question. Up until recently I have only done some running here and there, deciding on the day whether or not I'm gonna go for a run (still new to running). However, this week I started a structured training program. Mon/Wed/Fri is reserved for strength training and Tues/Thurs/Sat/Sun are reserved for cardio, which mainly is running with some MTBing included. (I am not following a 10km/21km/42km 'plan) My question is regarding the strength training. Should I be including a leg work out? (Squats, Leg press etc). Currently my strength days focus on upper body strength and core workouts.
  10. Awesome stuff! I think I better hit the drawing board and draw up a plan (by which I mean see what plans have already been put together by Runners World etc)
  11. Thanks very much for the help guys, I really appreciate it. I am currently doing about 10/15km per week (2/3 5km runs). I have run a handful of 10km runs of late and the one 15km. I have two goals presently. I would like to do a sub 30m parkrun (PB is currently on 32m) and would like to do a 21km by April
  12. Thanks very much! For a new runner, how many km's should a 'newbie' be racking up in the week?
  13. Hey everyone! Hope you all can give me a bit of advice. The running bug bit me only a few months ago (Started with a Parkrun). Since then I have been able to get my 5km time to 32m, 10km time to 1:10ish and on Friday I ran my first 15km (and farthest) in 1:50. My question to everyone is how does one improve their pace/speed? Is it a case of the more you run, speed comes naturally or does one have to do specific speed training? My goals are to run a 5km in under 30m and a 10km in under 1hr. Ontop of that I would like to run a half marathon soon.
  14. *obligatory couch pic*
  15. So I got myself my Xmas present on Saturday! Took it for a 25km induction on Saturday, was great fun! Bike is second hand through Bike Market (Good bunch of guys, worth a look) with some upgrades already. Tubeless and 2x10 Slx/Deore
  16. I apologize in advance for this post actually not containing any pics of new gear but I am beyond excited will only be collecting on Saturday so this might be a long week. So I have been looking at cycling for some time now and finally have found and paid for my first ever MTB! 2016 Silverback Sola 4, sram carbon crank, upgraded slx shifters and front, deore back, tubeless already done and for a great price! okay... I feel better now. Pics will definitely be coming shortly. Obligatory 'bike on couch' photo?
  17. Meaning that if I finish the swim quite a bit before the swim, I effectively 'buy' additional time in the cycle and run?
  18. Hi everyone, So I have spent basically the last 3 days reading through this entire forum as I am quite interested in doing a Triathlon and am looking for a bit of advice. I have been a strong swimmer growing up (water polo in school etc.) and have recently started running which I love! Will be getting a MTB (although I am looking at changing that to a road bike) in December so my mind naturally though 'why not combine the three'? Swimming as I said is my strong point of the three. My 2km swim PB is sitting at about 47m. Cycling I have absolutely no idea as to how well/bad i would be and with running I am still relatively new (able to maintain a 6.30/km) My question is that I would like to know what events I should look for to try the sport out? I have seen some events do sprint distance, however these are only for 16-19yo if I am reading it correctly. A 5150 event seems achievable if it was not for the 1h10m cut off for the run (after the prior two disciplines I am fearful of not making the cut-off Any help would be appreciated.
  19. Felt a lump and feeling of 'heaviness' in the scrotum. Those were the two main parts that stood out. The night before surgery I did have a pain, but that could of also been psychological because I knew about the surgery, however, dull pain and/or aches in the lower abdomen and scrotum are not uncommon.
  20. Early detection is key! Whether it is Prostate or Testicular.. I had a very aggressive tumor. It grew from 1.4cm to 6cm in 4 days. Doctors reckon I had a 2 week window before it became stage 3/4. Luckily found it before then.
  21. sounds like you know something I don't.... If it is incorrect reporting, what is should the correction be?
  22. I don't think that is the case. From my understanding, it is correct reporting. The cases reported were for patients undergoing treatment, not causes of death. And the cause of TC is very un-definitive. The current causes (read: what puts you more at risk) are an undescended testicle when you are young, trauma/damage to the testicle and history of it in the family. That is it. Doctors cannot point out a exact cause.
  23. Cheers! If it has made you more aware/helped in any way, I am glad.
  24. see the following stats: In 2007, there were only 153 reported cases of testicular cancer in South Africa, and, in 2009, testicular cancer only accounted for 1.1% of all male cacer WORLDWIDE
  25. In total, with my Doc. The USA reports about 5000 cases of TC a year, which is incredibly low given the male population is about 150mil
