  1. It is definitely R5k spread over 36 months. The R20k limit is on the purchase price of the bike for the benefit, meaning you could go and buy a R60k bike via the Bike Booster, but you would still be limited to earning R5k back maximum over 36 months (25% on R20k max). I am 110% certain that what I say is true.
  2. Hi Avesh and welcome! Others will be along shortly no doubt to discuss bike options, and I am not someone who can comment on the MTB side, however, I would suggest that you go to 1 or 2 bike shops for a sizing as an XXL sounds to big for you. I am 191 cm and take an XL frame to give you an idea.
  3. Hi all, Looking for a bit of guidance here please. I'm new to road cycling and recently got some nice road shoes that were on special (I've been on flats for a bit to get my balance up first and think it's time to go clip less). So now I need to get cleats and pedals and here is where I need advice. If I look at cycle lab for example, they have pedals from around R699 (Ryder) all the way to a couple thousand rand for Shimano ultegra and Look pedals. What benefits does one get with the much more expensive pedals and are they necessary for the amateur/beginner? TIA
  4. 2nd train of thought I've just had.. For me, I'm not exactly interested in reading HR data etc while on the bike. For me, what I would like to look at while riding is perhaps the time, speed, and distance data. With that being said, would wearing the watch on the bike to analyse afterwards and just have a 'cheap' basic bike computer be a fair combo?
  5. Thanks guys, I think I've just about made my mind up. I am still new to road cycling, so the watch will do for now, but will definitely keep an eye out for specials on a device and jump on.
  6. If can hijack a little from the OP, I have a Garmin Fenix 5x currently that I use for cycling, but have also been debating with getting and Edge of sorts. Let's say I get an Edge 130, can the 2 devices pair together? where the watch acts as a HR monitor and the Edge for all the other data? And further, will the Edge use the same Garmin connect app (i.e. all data displayed on the same app)?
  7. Thanks for all the advice everyone. Very much appreciated. It is just a case of a newbie who isn't fit at all and needs some time in the saddle. I will continue to wear my Garmin fenix just for review after the ride, but I will just focus on getting out there and pedaling about. Thanks again
  8. Thanks for the advice guys. @TyroneLab, I'm a roadie, so unfortunately the MTB group won't work for me. @Red Robin I will try to look it up. Last I heard Procycles were in a bit of trouble business wise (their store hasn't been open) but maybe the group is still active. Do they offer road groups?
  9. I'd absolutely love to join this group, but living in Benoni I'm afraid its a bit far. any idea of a very similar group nearby me?
  10. Appreciate the feedback all, thanks a lot. It is a wrist strap HR (Garmin fenix 5x) I will follow with the sentiments here and gear down to spin a bit more. That and rule number 5 might not be the worst advice haha Edit: I suppose for the first few months I shouldn't worry about any stats really? Just go out and ride and take it all in. I mean if I don't necessarily worry about speed/distance for the beginning it should have any detrimental effects would it?
  11. Hi all, I need a little bit of help here. I am new to cycling and have gone out for a total of 2 rides since I got my bike last week. Now on these rides (both about 20km) I can't pedal consistently for more than a few minutes before I need to free wheel to 'catch my breath'. The pain in my quads burns like **** which forces me to stop pedaling. From a cardio perspective, I am unfit, however when I look at my HR data from Garmin my AVG is about 100bpm, so clearly I could continue, but its just that burn that stops me. I have been for a bike fit so I am confident that it is all setup fine. Is it just a case of me needing to ride more and more to 'get through it' and it will become less, or is there potentially a problem here? It's just the HR data throwing me off, which is why I thought to get a few opinions here. TIA
  12. Was one of the things that stood out for me on the bike (the geometry). I'm no where near a age group podium finisher, and with two prolapsed disks in my back, I thought it was a good choice.
  13. Thanks Hairy, very chuffed. Should be having a bike fit this Saturday to dial it in.
  14. Very happy and smiling ear to ear with my purchase! A new-to-me bike day! This is my first venture into road cycling and pretty much cycling overall! Picked up on the classifieds here from a lekker hubber (Thanks Thomas ) What do you guys think?
  15. Spot on with your sentiments. Just a note, I looked at the sign up process, and it looks like you have to choose whether you are MTB or a roadie, so it seems as it would be specific to one discipline or another.
  16. Absolutely love the idea....but, I agree with some of the sentiments here. What happens if you get a pink bottle holder? Perhaps a very nice, premium bottle holder but if it clashes with your colour scheme or you already have 2 on your frame, its rendered useless. And the price is a bit steep with that degree of uncertainty. Perhaps an option would be to have a 'cheaper' option, that doesn't include the big ticket items but does all the smaller things, bike wash, chain lube, ride consumables etc. That I would look into a lot more.
  17. Appreciate the feedback. No rating will be given Guess I was just a bit upset/angry. Went from negotiating/talking to no sale and ghosting within 3 days. And my offer was what he willing to accept (R500 less than asking price of the bike)
  18. I would like some opinion as to whether my feelings/reactions are either to be expected, or if I may be overreacting. Story: contacted a hubber on here as he was selling his bike. Bike was a bit out my price range, so I chatted with him over a few days about that, but he wasn't budging much (absolutely fine in my books, his right to do so). I say to him I will let him know the next day (wanted to see if I could move some money around to make the sale). I contact him the next day as I said to him, saying I've got the money and would like to take the bike from him. He reads the message, no reply. Follow up message the next day after that, same thing, reads the message, no reply. Ad has subsequently been removed from the classifieds here. I feel extremely irritated, and I feel like I should rate him on his profile based on the experience here. However, I don't want to do so willy nilly. Your thoughts?
  19. Wow, thanks.
  20. Is that an Antonov? If so, where is this?
  21. Quite correct. I'm young (29), and if I could go back to my first year out of high school, I would have changed my B.com to some sort of trade. Electrical/plumbing/welding/woodwork. I know I could do it now physically, but it means giving up my job and the income I currently have, which wouldn't cover my financial expenses required (stupid choices have repercussions)
  22. I really reckon the way forward in these first world countries is a trade of some sorts. Bloke I know in the UK had a dry wall shower put in (not exactly sure what that is) and the woodworker was a Marketer from cape town. If/when I have children, I would never prohibit them from learning to make things with their hands and fixing things. The world has too many 'business men/women', and not nearly enough to get their hands dirty. That is where the money is at.
  23. capediver these videos are AWESOME! Please keep them coming.
  24. These pictures and stories are all truly fantastic! Being a Joburger born and bred, I am seriously thinking to myself that the Western Cape has GOT to be the best province for a cyclist surely?
  25. I am no expert on bikes, but as a consumer I can definitely say that Titan bikes appeal massively to me personally. Everything from entry level bikes to good value carbon racers. Sure there will be companies that put a lot into racers, and will be the standout, but they won't be in the same pricing bracket. on that note (sorry to hijack the OP) I am looking for a 2nd hand Titan Stryker in XL/61cm frame size if any one knows
