  1. Ok,this is what me and witkop did last year https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/79786-bike-tour-for-dec-holiday/ It was the first time touring and we learn't a few lessons along the way. -Pack everything you think you need out on your bed, draw a line and take only one side, you can really get along without a lot of the crap you take. -You do not need a dedicated touring bike, any MTB that has pannier mounts is suitable. You can get the racks that mount on the seatpost but they make the centre of gravity of the bike much higher, I wouldn't suggest a full suspension anyway. -Take it slow it's not a race, if you see something nice stop and take a photo, and if the sign say pub you should stop anyway. Other brands that specialise in touring: http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/
  2. I might be interested. What dates are you looking at? Direction or any preliminary ideas ito towns/scenery? I want to get my kit sorted and tested before the Dec holiday.
  3. Hi Everybody Thinking of placing a Aspirevelotech order end of the month. http://www.aspirevelotech.com I want to pay the USD 25 shipping otherwise it takes 2 weeks. $5 sharing in shipping for each person. PM me if anyone is interested.
  4. Take the Ti, you will not regret it. 1)It will outlast the other frame. 2)It rides better. (You don't need full suspension on ti) 3)As the parts wear off you can replace/upgrade.
  5. Thanks Sampras Do you have contact details or just a name of the firms that did it for you?
  6. Hi All Did anyone have a steerer tube replaced before and who did it for you. Also does anyone know of an engineering firm that can make springs to spec.
  7. Ask for Magnus at Cycle-fix, he's also the team mechanic for medcheme/bonitas.
  8. They're not flexy if you ride like a girl. Otherwise not. Saw a broken one at the shop, didn't really impress me as I buy components to last.

  12. Hi Peeps Sorry for the late update. Work was upon as too soon but here are a few pics to show you how it went. See http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=317896&id=519477288 for more photos. Overall a great experience, we learnt a few lessons on our first trip but have come out wizer and already plannig our next trip. Up here in Gauteng we don't really see that much touring but I was pleasantly surprised with the people we saw along the route, the hospitality of the places we stayed and just the overall friendliness we encountered along the way. When doing races we tend to be too focussed in reaching a goal or time we anticipated, but often we forget the pure pleasure of just riding your bike and even more so if it's your primary transportation. But this time we definately didn't miss the gemsbokke running along with us or the many raptors we saw along the way. Remeber Mtb'ing is like French culture, the more the Americans strive to understand it the less they do. Francois
