  1. Stick with the back pedal brake.......I've been down that road before, your only option is to replace the whole wheel. Every bike shop owner that I spoke to discouraged me. They all said that kid's hands are not strong enough to operate cable brakes.
  2. If you can stretch your budget by R3000, you can pick up a brand new full carbon Axis or Silverback Strella. Also bear in mind that the industry 2013 launches are around the corner and there are lots of discounts coming up on 2012 models.
  3. It's difficult to see from my phone, but it looks like the Sky bikes have the mechanical 11sp Dura Ace and not the electronic version.
  4. I had some very good service from Dave, who tried very hard to orgainise me with a Raleigh frame. But alas, Raleigh UK put a stick in the spokes.
  5. Not a good idea. Punish the shop owner for his employee's actions?
  6. Ok...........it seems as if the shop is trying to sort the problem out via warranty. We don't know enough about the problem to start pointing fingers. At least the shop is trying to sort it out and the OP will (hopefully) end up with a new frame. The question that should be asked is: what if the warranty had expired? Would the shop replace the frame at their expense, if they were to blame?
  7. Or the guy who claims that his bike has only been riden 3 times or has only 60km on the clock and then states that it has been serviced regularly.
  8. Basically to work and back tomorrow whilst mine is being repaired.
  9. My wheel needs to be repaired. The chain on my bike is on it's last legs. Will there be any slippage or premature wear if I put my wife's new wheel (with new cassette) on my bike with my old chain? I only intend on riding 40odd kms with it.
  10. There are no import duties on bike parts, only Customs VAT which is calculated on 110% of the cost (ie cost plus 10% x 14%)
  11. The problem was not so much as with the owners, but the people they employed. The owner of 360 went into a partnership with Como bike. Both of them had other businesses and had to rely on the people they employed. Other than Phillip (who was brilliant and is now a manager at Probike), I have never seen any of the employees on bikes. I found both of the shops to be relatively cheap, but under stocked.
  12. It's good..........should start a price war and should up the service levels. 2nd Breath closed ages ago. Let's not forget 360 Cycles that tried to break into the market and failed, as well as Comobike. At least JLA has a huge reputation that will attract the customers.
  13. Anybody from the region had a look at the results on the EP cycling website? Why is it that the provincial body can never stage an event that offers the best riders in the region? Why is it that the best riders never take part in the EP Champs? Some of the TT times are less than what the E Catagory riders at our club is doing. The U19, the Elite and the VETs 30-39 all started at the same time. The 3rd place Elite rider came in a whopping 1 hour behind the 1st place U19 (and overall winner) rider. I don't want to take anything away from the riders that did take part, I just want to know why our best riders never enter an event which is supposed to show case the best in the province.

    Raleigh Bikes

From what I've seen, Raleigh UK only seem to be bringing the supermarket special bikes to our shores.
  15. I heard this rumour too
  16. I was also under the impression that he does work there........which is why I posted it
  17. You work there?
  18. Shimano's new electronic shifters with hydraulic brake lines.
  19. Please don't let this become the new craze for road bikes. What next, a Colnago C59 with front shocks? There are some things that belong on mountain bikes.
  20. Thanks guys for the answers
  21. I've seen this mentioned many times on the Hub. What on earth is a "Through Axle"
  22. I wanted to by a cassette tool and decided to use one on my many SW vouchers that is always given to me for birthdays. The bike mechanic told me that they don't sell cassette tools. He then tells me that he doesn't have one either. I ask him how does he remove the cassette on bikes that he fixes. He held up a hammer and a screwdriver. "One hit, is all it takes" he said.
  23. Heard on the radio this morning that 135 Rhinos were killed in the Kruger park alone this year. i didn't realise that the Kruger Park had so many and that so many have been killed.
  24. You have me thinking...............my wife is German and desperately wants to be close to her mother in Germany. She has an EU passport and apparently I qualify for entry into the EU as a result of her citizenship. Both my kids are citizens of Germany too.
  25. I don't know much about Luxemborg, other than it is somehow linked to Germany. Is German the main language there or can you get by with English. From experience, I've learned that very few people in Germany can speak English
