  1. Detour years were 2000-2003.
  2. Like, you might end up going through a big chunk of Botswana to make the routing through/past Gauteng simpler and faster.
  3. For me, FKT route would start at Beit Bridge border post - not geographically the northern most place, there are a few farms that are further north, but I think that's the northern-most publicly-accessible starting point, and finish at the cairn that demarcates the southern-most point/meeting of the oceans at Aghullas. That's the easy bit. The route is a lot more challenging. Plenty of bikes-banned freeways you will need to avoid, presuming this is a road/gravel bike expedition.
  4. EDIT Deleted wrong info, got into length of Africa not South Africa, in my excitement.
  5. One man's junk miles is another man's saved shrink bills. Being out on the bike for no good physiological reason is so good for the head. You can't solve weighty issues in a HIIT session..
  6. These bullets can give you some advice if you want to go the proper off-road route. https://www.loot.co.za/product/david-bristow-riding-the-dragon-s-spine/vbcm-1681-g630

  8. There's your first mistake. Tegan is only part human.
  9. But.... still 2300m ascent before that beer. The wind will help, a little, but much of it is a side wind, coming in almost directly from the West as he heads just to the East of North.
  10. Madness.
  11. Don't even start me on hub names, Hairy.
  12. Every time I see this fred title, I think it's about masters racing.
  13. Wait 'til you see how much the Argus costs...
  14. I am sure the target isn't 70. But for it to be Guinessed, it needs to be sub-70, as 40 would be.
  15. 🤯
  16. Now that, Sir, is a Friday post.
  17. That's an awful lot of ascent...
  18. 1990 the event moved to a Sunday for the fist time (SKANDE) and with it the beginning of closed roads. Roads were still open to 'controlled' traffic in 1989. 1990 - entries capped at 14 000, the event could cope with no more. ALSO 1990 - helmets mandatory for the first time. Exciting times.
  19. That's a beaut, thanks for the laugh. 🤣
  20. I hope Roglic feels some embarrassment when the concussion wears off.
