What freaked me out about the Brain Stuff.

A few years ago I knocked on the spech Stellies main suspension servicing centre and had a walk and talk with the tech guys. To my surprise, if send your shock in for a service with them, they refurb it and it goes into the "system" and you get given another one that was previously serviced. So you do not know the history of the unit at all.

Not sure if that is still the case, but it was a bit of a WTF moment for me

If having a refurbished unit is such a big issue for you guys, you can always ask them to have your same shock back, will just take more time.

Agreed - a nice slack head angle will keep more people on their bikes instead of face first in the dirt. That isn't the SA way though! Over here we have far less mountains (ok absolutely no mountains) and more people are on trail oriented bikes.

SA is all about beating your mates and racing for time. 100mm is great for that - especially north of le Cape.

It does put the Anthem is a weird place though - if they are appealing to XCO racers then they failed horribly. It is a tiny market. If they expect people to use them for training, racing XCM and general use then it should definitely have 2 bottle mounts.

I miss the Cape and smashing about it on my old steel Niner hardtail ???? Thanks to the 'rona I haven't been to SA or sen my family there for 18 months! If you guys could sort out that 3rd wave I'd be super happy!

I find that hard to believe…. I mean it would depend on what breaks/how it breaks, and that would apply equally to all brands. The actual failure state would determine if it’s locked out, or not, rideable or not, etc

Fox chose to make their newer suspension's default mode in a locked position, meaning that you have to push to unlock. They claim that it makes the lever easier to push

Main difference IMO - when it breaks, you can get spares for Fox. RS spares are very limited.

And also if a Fox breaks, it defaults to locked, meaning you now have to finish your ride on a rigid. Now that sounds very lekker, until you realize that you are on a mountain bike and that the suspension is there for a reason.

  5. I beg to differ, I have raced with a set of mk1 crests for about 2 years, then a friend of mine raced with them for a few months and still have that same wheelset that just came off my dads anthem. Still as straight as the day I bought them, even after all the abuse of xco cup races and trailseekers. Also had a set on my vipa xt.
