  1. Wow, my mond water sommer. Very nice!
  2. Yeah... but only if you use a Stanley knife
  3. Polar CS300, not much in life makes you feel more manly than putting a dust covered watch back on your arm
  4. I must admit that I'm not overly happy with my Polar CS300. I had a Sigma PC15 before the Polar and I liked that more from a use/look/feel perspective. The only thing the Polar has over the sigma is the online diary functionality... My next HRM won't be a Polar. But rather a brand that offers GPS data together with HRM... wonder what that'll be
  5. Good deals are available on the hub, junkmail and don't forget fellow riders at your club or group rides. Just let every fellow cyclist know that you're looking for something else, and you just might come across one that says "I have a Cannondale/Merida/Schwinn gathering dust, you can have it for peanuts." BUT, do your home work. Know your size (frame and crank arms), know what level of groupset you'd like, read up on wheels and highlight/make a mental note of the ones you like. Lastly, be patient. The deal will come.
  6. where be the cool Whasp clothing?
  7. a wheel-shaped 0.5mm plastic collapsible strip mesh.
  8. Groenkloof gooood...
  9. Sounds like my 94.7... ended with a 3:24 if I remember correctly... But this year around, things will be different, I won't start in the 2nd last group of the day, I have loads more experience, I know what training helps and what training is a waste of time... and last but not least... I now own a steed capable of a sub 3... Mwhahaha MWAHAHAHA!!!
  10. ? Me too and I think they are awesome. Fast tread in the center' date=' and plenty of grip on the sides with those C knobs. Although I am looking at some weight weenie tubeless tyres for cross country etc.?and keeping the Monorails for?general rugged rides.[/quote'] I ran 2 Monorails when I got into Mountain biking. So when I cut my front Monorail I decided to get a CrossMark to try something else. I had the CrossMark in front with the Monorail at the back for 2 rides and the combo was terrible, so I switched them around - CrossMark rear and Monorail front; Much better, but I won't say it's better than Monorail front and rear. My next rear tyre will be a Kenda Nevegal, enabling me to run Monorail front for dry conditions or Schwalbe Albert front for wet stuff. MaxUmis2010-03-23 06:56:48
  11. Well, the Eastons will be about 300g lighter than the Shimanos. Saving 300g on a rotating part can IMO be considered a big upgrade. The Eastons will roll smoother and being lighter, should climb better. My GF has Eastons and I have RS-20s and the only thing that IMO is better on the Shimano RS20s are the bladed spokes. Other than that, I'm extremely jealous.
  12. Case and point. Remember it's St. Patricks day today. What law is okay to be broken today?
  13. My GF dropped me off in Roeland street, about 3 blocks from the start. We were early so I stayed with her for about 30 minutes. In those 30 minutes I might have seen 10 cyclists stop at the red traffic light where we were waiting. In that time probably 1000 cyclist past us, heading towards the start of which HALF ignored the red traffic light and the other half just so happened to get it green. The point I want to make is that we(people who want to obey the law and have others do the same) are the minority. The bulk of cyclist in SA doesn't give 2 cents about road laws or safety. How do you instil a sense of responsibility into a culture of disregard?
  14. I was a little disappointed in our armband effort. I had my armband on; even have the tan-line to prove it. But I only saw one other guy wearing his... he was wearing one on each arm so maybe that counts as 2.
  15. We definitely have a massive problem on our hands. There are a LOT of people out there, driving their weapons capable of bodily harm and they are becoming less and less afraid of using them The general public seems to be of the opinion that cyclists have no place on the road. (I used the word place and not right, because it's really a privilege isn't it.) Also what got me thinking is... I don't know the legal rights of bicycles on the road... I just ride in a manner that keeps me as far out of the way of other traffic as possible... So I asked Google. and Google gave me this: 105. Riding on pedal cycles.?(1) No person shall ride a pedal cycle on a public road unless he is seated astride on the saddle of such pedal cycle. (2) Persons riding pedal cycles on a public road shall ride in single file except in the course of overtaking another pedal cycle, and two or more persons riding pedal cycles shall not overtake another vehicle at the same time. (3) No person riding or seated on a pedal cycle on a public road shall take hold of any other vehicle in motion. (4) No person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall deliberately cause such pedal cycle to swerve from side to side. (5) No person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall carry thereon any person, animal or object which obstructs his view or which prevents him from exercising complete control over the movements of such pedal cycle. (6) A person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall do so with at least one hand on the handle-bars of such pedal cycle. (7) Whenever a portion of a public road has been set aside for use by persons riding pedal cycles, no person shall ride a pedal cycle on any other portion of such road. (8) A person riding a pedal cycle on a public road or a portion of a public road set aside for use by persons riding pedal cycles, shall do so in such manner that all the wheels of such pedal cycle are in contact with the surface of the road at all times. Since there is legislation about "pedal cycles" in the Road Traffic Act, it's safe to assume that cyclists actually do have a place on public roads. all be it, a very unsafe one.
  16. I'll be wearing one too.
  17. That's fair, and in all likely hood what I'd do too. I just think the problem is more with the potential buyers out there, than the sellers. It's because of flaky buyers that guys adopt a first cash strategy...
  18. I'll sell to the first oke that shows me the money. It happens way to often that someone says "please hold it for me" then disappears like mist before the sun. I agree that in a perfect world, if someone says they'll take it, they will. But this is far from a perfect world and blacklisting or marking someone for taking the first cash is bad form. just my first cash offer of 2cMaxUmis2010-02-18 05:53:11
  19. The math indicates that a 50 - 11 is about 2/3 of a rear gear less than a 53 - 11... So to try and explain it even more simply: 50 - 11 combo = 53 - 11.6 combo... You don't even loose a full rear gear going to compact from standard... Thats on the big ring in front.
  20. okay, okay. Groenkloof is easy. The tracks are as good as paved with no uphills or downhills to speak of. My granny goes around the 16km loop in 30 minutes flat on her single-speed from 1857. Also, the wildebees like it when bikers try to pet their little ones
  21. It just depends on how quick you plan on going. There is one particular section that will shake your eyes out of their sockets if you go down there at pace on a bike with no suspension... Oh' date=' and that section just loves murdering new Monorails!!! [/quote'] ? Aaagggg kek man.......I have ALWAYS ridden Groenies with a hardtail with no issues...... ? Pansie. Smeer net bietjie van jou magic creampies aan die seer plek!? all fun and games until someone cuts a Monorail. Nope, that's ruff, but not so bad. This is about 2km after you go up Onions. You're very likely to see Wildebees on the right on this section. Very ROCKY, pretty quick jeeptrack that turns to single track when you cross another road. It ends in a T junction with the humped downhill jeep track that leads down to the tar road. It's not the last bit (single track bit) that bothers me... It's the last bit of jeep track. Shake-shake-shake-shake-kidney failure- shake-shake-shake
