  1. I don't think it's a question of whether it can be done, but rather if he did it. He won't need to run the motor for the whole race; only when he needs it. so 5 x 18650's with a 2.5A draw will supply close to 50Watt of electrical power... Put 50Watt ontop of what those athletes push into the pedals and you'll find that 50Watt is a big bump in power. Remember that if they did it, it' wouldn't have been a home hack job, so they could easily hide the batteries in the top/down tube with no external cables.
  2. Well... it would be easy to hide a button under the hood cover. no one will ever know... Cabling to the motor from the control switch will be a visible issue, however doing a remote control switch won't be rocket science. I reckon it's very possible, dependent on motor noise. The system will add a bit of weight to the system though...
  3. I like, BIG BUTTS and I can not lie!
  4. You should do what I do... Just storm up behind them and as you get to them lock up your brakes. The other thing you can try is to sneak up behind them and when you're real close BARK at them like a dog. Both get more or less the same reaction. The poor inexperienced rides normally go off track and fall over, leaving the path clear for you to rip up!
  5. Ja, MJ, don't be a hater.
  6. What is the retail price on a GT Avalanche 1??? those are NICE WW MTBs...
  7. for what it's worth, I spoke to a guy at Cajee's in Centurion the other day and they sold a Spark ltd that week for very little money. Also the 2009 range of Scotts are going for peanuts. I'm still upset that I didn't put a Spark 50 on my credit card for R10500... The MTB trails in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada better be worth missing out on that deal...
  8. Sonic link does work... I run Vista and it works and not many things work on Vista... It does however sometimes stuff out. Programs that might want to use the mic may influence performance... like skype or audio mixer software. I also found that it needs to be quiet when you do the upload. Cyclists tend to be a chatty lot... I have about 6 months' rides uploaded to personaltrainer.
  9. I've found that using the "Low volume" setting never works.
  10. The problem with electrified or exploding bikes is that they might just get enabled by accident. The only device I see working is a hidden tracking device. Yes battery life is an issue and you'll need to find the bike withing an hour or so, BUT who is "the cavalry"? Who's going to fly out with a chopper and/or scramblers, armed to the teeth, to go and find your bicycle?
  11. #1. Ride till your lungs burn, recover, ride till your lungs burn, recover... #2. Hardtails are quicker than Duelies. Even when going downhill. No objections will be heard in this regard, I've experienced it on my own 2 wheels. #3. Just tube it. Tubeless wheels are pigs, they burp and mess everywhere. #4. Mud destroys expensive drivetrains quicker. #5. Only wear a cycle shirt if you need more pockets to carry stuff. Old T-shirts and baggies are the real MTB gear. #6. It's not how you stand by your bike, it's how you ride your bike, you better remember that.
  12. what if you had taken the stone in the neck... or eye!!! this must take some kind of prize for "Random injury of the year" Hope your leg heals up in quick time.
  13. 2 Quick rants about Groenkloof on Saturday morning. 1. To the guys that found my water bottle and put it nicely on the anthill for me to find; you are true gentlemen. Thanks guys. It would have been a long trek home with no water... 2. To the people that don't follow the directional boards... Are you insane? It's hard enough staying right side up with everyone going the same way, now you mix things up by going the wrong way. Ah nee ah kerels. What could we suggest to management to try and cure this dangerous situation? BTW the guy that almost took me out, going the wrong way, wasn't wearing a helmet!!! In the words of Mr Toyota dog; what a chop.
  14. Not unless you're into building random stuff. Even if you are big into diy, the only thing that makes it worth it is being able to say: "I made that." LEDs: $4 - $16 Driver: $2 - $80 Lens: $2 - $15 Plugs and buttons etc: $5 - $20 Kay so it should be possible to get the guts for a single LED light at around $15... You can also get a XRE Q5 flashlight from DX for $13... so... is it worth it?
  15. So I've disappeared off the hub for 3 or 4 days because the urge to build a proper light setup has consumed my every waking moment. Pop in today after sourcing, ordering and designing the electronic parts for my new build projects and I stumble upon a thread that looks like mine from the future It's the weirdest thing. My project will have a handlebar mounted light and helmet mount. Handlebar mount light; 6 x XPG - R5 bin, 3 modes by switching on 2 LEDs at a time. Optics are mixed. estimated 1800lm and 2h30m full power run time (+- 8h00 at 600lm) Helmet mount light; 4 x XPG - R5 bin, 2 modes same as above, BUT only driving at 500mA per LED to make it less power hungry, however optics are throw oriented. Estimated 730lm for 2h30 and 5h00 @ 365lm And the casing design so far looks very similar to your cube... Great job on your lights, you've done everything like I would have and better. my reference list now includes: Troutie AND thysmeades
  16. That Morewood is PIMP. What is PIMP? That Morewood... It's PIMP.
  17. Amen brother.
  18. New chains take a while to settle. MTB chains wear rather quickly. 2.5Mega meters sound like a good run to me. 2 -c- ummm, no I doubt that's the reason XTR can be split... As far as I have it, the cost difference is because of materials used (nickel plated etc) and machining done (cutting and drilling to lighten the cassette) and of coarse; bragging rights.
  19. Bunbury rocks. Enjoy life down under dude.
