  1. look at one of the active posts "world cup photo's" ... except the DH dude, seems all others are on egg beaters. Yes, their bikes are built for 1 race at a time only and they are more concerned with efficiency / weight than durability, but all using egg beaters must say something about how great these pedals are. I will never go back to spd and have also never had any durability issues. on contrary i will probably break an SPD much quicker because it got clogged with mud / little stones and causes me to fall over like someone riding cleats for the first time...this ending up me smasing them until they break
  2. Allot depends on your service frequency. If you service quite often, the impact of a little water in the "orifices" is reduced.
  3. there are two entrances to suikerbos - which one does one take ... and is it idiot proof to find the route?
  4. Thanks man, makes sense...
  5. One is always told to taper. Does anyone know what the biometrics is on this? (i.e. other than not arriving at the race over trained / tired, how does tapering affect your body physically?)
  6. I'm in for either one, just as long as i get one !!
  7. When you say lockrings, you mean the conversion from the centre lock to the 6bolt? I use the dt swiss ones (luckly got them off a mate so not sure where to buy)
  8. Looking at the map now - not sure if my little extra will reach 20km ... we can always play in the waterfall estate too...
  9. This sounds great ! I'll PM you for details if you dont mind me joining you guys? If you want to make it about 20km you carry on with the kayalami road, turn left into shakespear all the way pass the prison, left carry on up to maxwell to finish with a nice hill and free back to naivasha ! Another nice urban assault route i found thats about 50km over a weekend is: Up maxwell, left at the top robot taking you to join the kyalami road. You go up all the way pass kyalami then left into main. This takes you past lonehill and joins witkoppen where you head left until you take a right onto the spruit for a 20+ km loop and back on witkoppen home.
  10. Hey guys - any groups riding from the JHB sunninghill / paulshoff area weekdays fairly early?
  11. I'm yet to see a rotor that runs 100% true. They are fairy flexible. Bike shops would use a special tool, but I've just used my hands to slightly bend the rotor to correct for minor wabble. In your case, get them to sort out though while you there and dont leave before you are 100% happy !! Enjoy your new bike
  12. Got a screw through my tubeless during the week, wanted to put a patch inside the tyre today but ran out of glew so used superglue. Inflated, but imedately starting leaking until the new sealant took care of the problem. So, i dont think the superglue held up .... ?
  13. This should sum it up nicely. 2 weeks before sani2c my partner had to pull out so i had to pick the fittest friend i had. Before Sani2c we rode once together 80km, before that he had only ridden casually at least a few months before and not more than 30km. He is a runner who permanantly keeps fit by running and was in his comrades training at that stage. We ended up in the top 50% (think it may have even be top 1/3 but not sure .. have memory of goldfish !!) with Sani2c ... nuff said ...RESPECT
  14. Bob, i've taken the plunge and going for the XT - they are lighter than the cross rides, plus if they DO break, spares are cheaper too (but could take time to get). if the hub does go, one could always then cough up the price differential between xt and deore and get decent free hubs.
  15. Thanks Bart -seems you may be one of the luckier ones
  16. Hi guys, in the market for good set of UST rims in the R3-R4k range. I weigh about 70kg, ride XC / trail only, but dont hold back on rocky decents so need a reliable build. Any advice or experience with these wheelsets (other suggestions obviously welcome!!) I've read allot of reviews stating that the XT freehubz are guaranteed to seize up ?
  17. Thanks Guy - will check them out !
  18. The more forums and reviews I read the more a realize the XT hubs are CRAP ... is it due to lack of service or just general crappiness. I'm in the market for UST rims and until now were looking at the XT M775 for R3000 from CWC. Any advice for other UST rims in that price range? other option is crank bro cobalt for 5500? thats a bit high tough ...help???
  19. thanks regard
  20. GK obviously safe and great to ride, but recall there being safety issues at fountains (long time ago admittedly) ... any cause for concern?
  21. dremmel? burs?
  22. Carbon does not suffer from metal fatigue. Thus if you dont crash it and crack the frame it will litteraly last forever. Alu does take metal stress and will eventually break. To sum it up, the new A380's wings are made of carbon fibre...
  23. apperently not ...
