  1. By who?
  2. Got all that ... Groupset, disc wheels etc ... Playing with idea of just swapping out the frame
  3. Loving these options
  4. I'd like something that'll make me look good! Endurance is probably the right way to go for my body but my spirit says all out race bike
  5. I don't have any lined up... More looking at starting points
  6. If you had 40k for a road bike frame and wanted it to be new what would you buy?
  7. It's that 10 percent of people across the board whose personality traits place them in the category @$$. There is some anecdotal evidence however that suggests we cyclists constitute a self selected sample which skews this percentage upwards.
  8. Definitely on my to do list in 2023
  9. Entered. The next weekend is swartberg gran Fondo but my sinus meds And the uci accreditation may mean I will be branded a doper when im 10 minutes faster than my usual 8hrs 30 and 2 weeks later it's 36one.
  10. Can't imagine doing that rooiberg pass on my checkpoint although I see the 36one allowing gravel bikes in 2023.... It'll be a better bike handler than I am that takes them up on that
  11. I think being encased in armour of metal and plastic with the power of a herd of horses available with the flick of an ankle is a bad idea for most people. Creates a sense of entitlement or at least exaggerates an entitlement that is already there. " Obstacles be they hills or other people can be easily overcome and I'm entitled be anywhere I want fast" are twin delusions that are reinforced by motor vehicles. It's not a popular opinion because cars serve as a symbol of all the cultural ideals we strive for (power, autonomy, status, control etc) but I increasingly feel that cars are the devil's work. Not long ago travelling at 100 miles an hour was impossible and a feat reserved for the gods.... Now any drunk teenager can do it for sh1ts and giggles. Strikes me as grand scale species based hubris.
  12. The global relationship with cars and the infernal combustion engine is analogous to a smoker's relationship with cigarettes. He knows it's killing him. He knows he needs to stop but he keeps lighting up and belching his pollution into the air oblivious to the stink even as the manufacturers wrap it in ever more svelte and sleek packaging and designs. The more I ride the less I like my car and the more ridiculous the whole concept cars seems to me. Use it only when I have to. Sorry to hear about this savages. Hope the motorist foots the medical bills
  13. Yes ... that horse with its flowing mane and rippling muscles may be a little bit wishful given the soggy bottomed donkey (me) that dragged itself over the finish line but a mamil can have aspirations I suppose.
  14. I knew I was undercooked on the comeback trail after my OTB broken metacarpals and ribs at Around the Pot but I hadn't realised just how undercooked I was. Suffered like the slow mule I am. Tough course, state of fitness and weather (headwinds and rain) stopped me enjoying the scenery which I know is lovely there cos I've ridden a few MTB events before (Napier patatfees being one of them, came down that very steep climb that we went up on that ride, but climbed it from the other side .... slowest ever 100 miler but it's in the legs... I carried 3 water bottles which was more than enough given the weather but on a hot day I would have needed a camelbak too. Gravel bike is the right bike for the event but there were times I wished I had a dropper post and even a little bit of suspension would have been nice on some of the descents - I envied the guy with the Lauff fork and the guy with the 30mm lefty too .... Was pleased I'd swapped my 40mm's for 45mm's Cinturato mixed terrain... very good tyre IMO. I'll be back to improve my time if it's on again next year.
  15. I love zwift racing. I just squeek into B batch which means I can pretty much predict where I'll finish before the race starts but its great fun knowing I can't sprint for toffee and so trying to snap the elastic in the groupetto as we get 2k from the line while pretending I'm in a winning breakaway. It keeps my small mind entertained while I sweat bullets. Also entering a 20 minute Crit in a big field is a great way to do a ftp test. But I agree with the OP... Really stupid to give oneself a 25 percent boost into the "Armstrong on an extra 2 pints of blood with extra sauce" territory and expect not to get caught.
  16. Took advantage of a crisp and not too windy early morning to do a loop over the Nek into houtbay, suikerbossie and home via waterfront and the n1. At the robot in Claremont a bakkie with a Thule bike rack gave me room to go into the lane and the driver said I shouldn't cycle alone. I will admit to extra vigilance given the taxi that's preying on is lately and all the other f#$ckwittery out there but I don't want to give in to the buggers. Saw lots of other mamils and a very fast lady doing hill repeats in bishopscourt taking the same risk. And some savages greeted politely on the bridge in houtbay. Viva cycling.
  17. Looking forward to this on Saturday. Brand new Pirellis on the gravel bike. Probably a little undercooked but so looking forward to being in the middle of many miles from anywhere
  18. Imagine the crowds in groups 2 through 4 on those narrow twists. Lots of low speed derailleur bending topple overs. As an aside .... Next municipal election I vote for any party that undertakes to resurface red hill
  19. Every year I say "I don't think I'll do it again" ..... And then I do
  20. I think it also writes GPS info to the file at slightly longer intervals than 1 second so slight loss of accuracy
  21. I downgraded to.109 route cos comeback fromminjury has been a little slower than hoped. I made a mamil montage
  22. I dated a vet for some time (turned out maminals were not her favourite animal after all) and she told me that moving tortoises is risky cos it can cause them to pee which dehydrates them.
  23. So .... Who's in for 2023?
  24. Ha ha... Technically cows like mamils are full of bull. I might have a beef though with anyone who suggests I'm doing anything udder than joking around. Mamils give it horns.
  25. I was at contermans this morning. Everything is very very smooth. Most rocks removed... Too beginner even for me with my not yet recovered broken hand. I threatened to PK a cow but my threat didn't make a dent in its bovine indifference. I didn't see anybody and so didn't get PKd.
