  1. I used www.pinned.co.za for the first time. Quick and easy
  2. Cool. I suppose it is something you need to feel then. I've never understood the appeal of carbon, but I suppose there must be something...
  3. Interesting... What wheels did you have previously(same weight)? And you running the exact same tires?
  4. Awesome... I wonder if they will cater for 27.5
  5. Geez, my opinion is not to go too crazy. Just spray with degreaser, run chain against a brush, then rise off. Let dry and lube with Smoove.
  6. I'd definitely do with the SLX. It is on a higher level compared to NX (IMHO), and cheaper.
  7. Totally agree.. the portage sections are awesome! The trails are quite "raw" - no jumps and berms. A lot of it is like a hiking trail that is rideable.
  8. There are some trails started at Sanddrif. I really enjoyed them. http://www.sanddrif.com/mountain-biking-trail-running/ The Wolfberg trails is short, but the most fun if you enjoy technical section that are labelled as "portage" i.e. carry your bike, but they are rideable if you have a dropper post and like slow technical descents. Then the Klihuis trail is also fun, and you can link it to the others when you reach the dirt road, half way. https://www.sanddrif.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/CederbergMapA4.jpg
  9. I'm wondering if changing the front is going to make a big difference? I think the purgatory is on the aggressive side for an XC rear. I'd consider a different rear first.
  10. On my 27.5 Trance with 30mm ID rims, I've got a 2.6 Eliminator on the front. It measures about 2.5. Pretty happy with it. Got a 2.3 Aggressor on the rear... grips pretty well, but feels slow. Any suggestions for something that rolls a bit faster? Previous bike had Nobby Nics which rolled fast but didn't grip.
  11. Best prince on an Eagle X01 Chain?

    45k mtb?

I'd look at a 1 or 2 year old Giant Anthem...
  13. I just bought a bike with them on, and they feel good, but are quite soft and might wear quickly? I think I have the thin size though - thick would be better for me.
  14. Yes please!
  15. Website says: "Rock Shox 15x100mm Maxle Lite" So it is non-boost.
  16. Any deal on the Eagle X01 chain? https://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/sram-pc-x01-eagle-chain
  17. So, is the advantage of the XT setup in the shifter + derailleur? Chain/ cassette less so?
  18. I also miss the comments for ads... I found it very useful. People often make mistakes in their ads, like the wrong year model. Using a PM, they normally don't change the ad, and just ignore.
  19. Cool, thanks - I just added a map to my previous post, but you've just confirmed what I thought. I actually turned back at that exact point (back to the dirt road), but was with other people and didn't look properly
  20. Will definitely make sure I do it next time... Is the split obvious? It is at the point where the single track turns off left from the jeep tack on top? So you keep on with the jeep track? See arrow below... I think I had become numb to all the signage (which mostly has all the colours on it) Different signage at the splits would be cool.
  21. Rode the 22km Red Pinotage trail on Friday. Had a great time. First time on the trials... The surface of the trails was a bit soft due to the wet recent weather, so rolling was a bit slow. They will be great in summer. We took all the black options along the route, which adds the technical bits - definitely include them, to keep things interesting. There is loads of signage... almost every 50m And also big warning signs for anything that could catch a beginner off guard. We wanted to do the 32km Black Shiraz route, but somewhere we missed the turn. It was a bit confusing, since the black route shares all the red route segments, so most signs show red and black arrows. The split on the top of the hill (where the black route splits off) wasn't obvious, or I somehow missed it. So keep your eyes peeled. So in the end, we only figured this out much later (too late). The downhill switchback run was good, and will be even better when dry. A few drop offs and jumps would be welcome though.
  22. Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I love the Wild Boar Trails from VDC, but they can get quite muddy after rain - although it is still great fun, I wouldn't want to damage the trails. Is the Scout Trail a better option in the wet? I'm happy to support them with the trail fee.
  23. Nice, might give it a try this weekend. I have just confirmed that this specific trail (Hawekwas Scout Adventure Centre Loop) is not free for Tygerberg members. Anyone know if the Hawekwas Scout trail drains well, or if it will be super muddy after recent rains?
  24. Does anyone have feedback on the Rhebokskloof trails - Pinotage (22km) or Shiraz (32km)? Seems like they have lots of single track. Are there any interesting technical bits to get the heart pumping? Dose the trail drain well, or will it be a muddy mess after the recent rains?
