The why is easy actually...because the lurkers just sit in the classifieds like aasvoels waiting for the next bargain to call dibs on. An active contributor that wants the same item will ten to one miss it because he is in the forum part. You work on a first come first serve basis....and works for you. I want to rather give someone the opportunity to get the item cause he is actually part of thehub, not just circling in the classifieds. Even if it means it takes longer to sell or we negotiate a lower price...Fine by me.

Classifieds is but one aspect of the forum...I don't know why people are so concerned over this, like I said before...I am the only one with this view...and I am not that active in the classifieds anyway... And like you pointed out, "helping" can take many forms....donations / advice / experience in cycling and non cycling topics. We made a corporate company do the right thing in the carpet thread....why? because we acted as a community. If we were all just here for bargains of the week, I wonder what the outcome would have been for her.

I am not doubting the "lurkers" credibility / competency / honesty...I am just not interested in dealing / helping them since they don't give back....simple really and as you pointed out its everyones choice....and this view is in the minority. Look at the example in a previous post about selling to active member...that contains the just of it.

Hardly generalizing daan....no posts = no activity = no contribution. Its not that is frustrating but more about helping active contributors instead of bargain hunters that add zero value. Let me paint a picture for you...say I have an XT brakeset I want to sell at R800 bucks...I would like to give the active members the chance to get it rather than the lurkers that sit in the classifieds the whole day, because they obviously responded first. With the post count rule, they dont get the option to respond giving the regulars the chance to respond. See the one hand washes the other...I wouldnt stress to much about it though, seems I am the only one doing it.

Agree, the net result won't even be noticeable, however it does go beyond just the classifieds for me personally.

I have no problem personally with lurkers pin it 101....there is in anyway no way to stop it, however I don't want to help them since they are themselves not interested in helping others. I agree that post count isn't always spot on ito judging someones character, but that is all we have here in forum land....again the argumentative threads are here, but try and stay clear if its not your cup of tea...but by not posting at all, because you are scared of being flamed doesnt make sense.

ah you gots it, you see by posting here and debating you actually participating...I already know more about you than I did an hour ago and vica versa...I think people overthink the contributing thing....it doesnt mean you need to always have an opinion on everything(I personally try and avoid the religion and politics threads), but merely to have an opinion sometimes...there are many threads on a daily basis that is non cycling related and even some that needs help or advice on these topics...sometimes just posting your experience helps someone, somewhere along the line...you might not even know it.

You dont need in depth knowledge to contribute....and there are many ways to help people, Tech Q&A is but one part of this forum. I personally wish admin would make a requirement, but I understand his position it however does nothing for stimulating growth of what I think everybody wants thehub to be....read the gumtree vs community post.

Hey whatever works for you...but look at the who is online section, most of those numbers are lurkers sitting and watching the classifieds like hawks, but hell, you never see them when someone needs advise / help. I don't deal with leeches.
