  1. Ive seen the latest pics of the Attakwas and also seen the footage of some races. (Ive never done a MTB race before, only training rides). Im interested in buying a camelbak but seems the pro's only use normal water bottles. Why is that???
  2. EKO is nice... we are staying at the Hardley suits (for cost saving purposes ). Re the overcast conditions, people here tells me thats how it is.... Being like this the whole week. Benin is nice, but ive only been in Cotonou a couple of times, just be carefull of the 1000's of vespas! You would propably get a driver i guess. Good luck with the projects!
  3. Weather here in Lagos is crap - overcast and humid. Luckily im only here for 2 weeks Cant wait to get back to the Cape and on the bike again. err and the local food here is scary....
  4. All the comments above especially bike position is propably correct. Also, if you strengthen your core muscles it would do wonders as well. Time on the bike and some core excersise should do the trick. That being said, bike geometry sometimes just doesnt fit your profile. Back in the day i road canondale, and when my bike got stolen, i switched to a cool paint jobbed Orbea. Orbeas are cool bikes but i got back pains immediately even after my bike was properly setup. Orbea just didnt fit my profile....
  5. Ive only seen negative comments on the strobe function so far. What is it normally used for?
  6. Thanks, i checked the Rogue on the Camelbak site, and must agree that it looks good, 2L bladder and seems a lot less bulky than the Mule. What would be a good price??
  7. So, does this mean that a Camelbak Mule off Pounds 55 would work out as follow ?: 55 * 13 = Rands 715 for the product * 100/117 = 611 (ex vat UK) Duty is 10% + 30%, therefore 611 * 40% = 244 Then VAT = 611 + 244 = 855 * 1.14 = Rands 975 Then shipping cost of Rands 128 +975 = Rands 1103 Then it is actually more expensive than in South africa!!
  8. Does anyone know whether i would be able to get the Camelbaks at a good price in the JHB INT Airport? Or, where can i find Camelbaks at the best price?
  9. Guys, would a camelbak be considered as clothing or bike parts?
  10. Yes, have this one already......
  11. Anyone that owns a Hydrapak?? Im interested due to price reasons, but would like to hear some Hubber's comments.

    Mtb routes

Majik forest and Hillcrest - see the Tygerberg MTB club homepage http://www.tygerbergmtb.co.za/index.html Im sure theres some other people with cool routes, right now we trying to find a way from a farm on Botelary to Stellenbosh over the hills
  13. Hi, i need some advide. From a prev post seems the Camelback Mule is preferred by most. Ive seen a special st CWC on Hydrapaks for a great price eg sub R300 while the Camelbacks only start at abt R600 (the Mule is R1000+ !!!) Some reviews i read on the Hydrapak complains abt space constraints and taste of the water. Any of you have a Hydrapak and willing to give feedback on it? Alternatively, are there any other specials out there. I just feel R1000+ is too much...... Im looking for a nice system which can take my spares and enough for a good day's ride.
  14. Green WL is the inbetweener.. between dry rides and wet rides, suppose to cater for any situation. I used it but now changed to Squirt as well, 1st ride today and im quite happy with it. The Green WL seemed to attract dust like a magnet. CJVDM2009-12-17 14:17:35
  15. Its Indola cycling shorts, specifically recommended by CWC. Very nice at first but now not so nice. Very unfortunate as they were expensive to begin with. Thought i was buying quality
  16. When i started riding MTB again after a layoff of abt 5yrs, i bought new cycling shorts with a rather thick chamois, thinking it might help me ease into things At first all was going as planned, on short distances no problem and eventually i could start using my old shorts with the thinner protection. But, on longer distances eg 60km + i seem to chafe out the stiching on the chamois, which results in nice big red welts on my arse . This does not happen with my older cycling shorts. Now, the burning question is - whats wrong and how do these new shorts differ from my old ones? Btw, i was cycling for 7yrs (road) before that with no issue like this before. Is it the thick chamois thats creating a space (for lack of a better word) at which creates friction, or does the new shorts cover less of a area than the old ones? Anyone come across this before? Any help would be appreciate. CJVDM2009-12-13 15:09:59
  17. So, does this mean that i have to negotiate for everything i buy? Should i negotiate with Woolies or PnP when i buy groceries? Why would the medical profession charge 3 - 4 times the NH rates? Why not just give us the best price? I think the problem is with my upbringing where we were told to shut up and accept everything. At what point should i negotiate and when should i not? eg - Vehicle repairs - Solar heating installations - ect I try to get a quote from various suppliers before i do something, then i pick the best fit eg value for money. If you dont quote me your best price, dont be surprised if i dont pick you.
  18. Hi, im looking for a group that starts near Stellenberg area every morning and do a +- 1hr tar trip. I ride a MTB but should be able to keep up if the pace starts out slowly and then build up. Lemme know

    W Cape rides

Can anyone tell me how the route of Majik is working once i get to the sub-station? Once i get to the next hill, do i go left around the hill or straight up and coming down on the left eg clockwise or counter-clockwise?
  20. Thanks for clarifying DM. Now im burning to see the hillcrest route....
  21. Hi , can anyone post a map of the Majik Forest route? The one on the website does not show the route proper. Would be nice to see where the new ST is. Ive only cycled up to the electricity sud-station so have no idea of how it works. Also didnt know abt the honesty box . Ive ridden the trail twice but always start at the vineyard, then cycle up to beacon, then down the ST into the forest below and out again. Also, if you could post a pic of the Tygerberg MTB shirts, would like to see whether they cool.
  22. Learnt today that the drops (not sure of the correct term) at the ends of my handlebars are quite neat in stopping my hands from slipping off when going down a singletrack. They sure as hell kept my from plowing face first a couple of times today.
  23. Ive learnt this weekend that MTB is a wonderful versatile sport. You can basically take your bike anywhere and get some execise. It was great cycling between the wheat fields and just explore your way over hills and between valleys. and... now i had to spend almost an hour to get all the dust off my bike
  24. Newbie question: If my MTB tyres are filled with slime, and i want to put some slicks on for eg The Argus. How would i do that? The moment i deflate the tyre, would the sealant not come out and clog the valve? Wouldn't it be better then to fork out and buy another set of wheels for the road?
