  1. Thanks guys, I bought the XTR chain more just on the spur of the moment, only R60 difference but i hear you, will stick to XT next time. Re the blades, the truvativ is practically the same price as SLX but far below XT prices. Was just wondering whether forking out double the price on XT's are worth it or not
  2. Just had my chain replaced and then found out the cluster as well as front chainrings had to be replaced as well. A quick R2000 (bit of a surprise) but hopefully my bike can now last a couple of months again. But, they fitted my bike with XT cluster and XTR chain on my request. For the chainring, the bikeshop fitted me Truvativ chainrings (middle one is XT as they were out of stock), as the Truvativ was a lot cheaper than the XT. I would like to know how the Truvativ chainrings compare quality wise to XT chainrings, and if lower quality, how do they compare against SLX chainrings. Hope there is someone out there with an opinion
  3. Has anyone tried the CWC Online bib shorts? The price is far lower than the Assos but im not sure how they compare quality wise?
  4. Try searching on the hub for some posts on this. As far as i can remember the best voted combos were the monorail front and crossmark back, or the (Conti's)mountain king front and race king back. Im using the monorail/crossmark combo and (im not the fastest rider) very happy. With my Kenda Karmas i found it tended to slip out under me but the monorail has not done that.
  5. At least the milk is on the couch
  6. Nah guys, my arse is not the most picturesque... Its not a new saddle, been using it for almost 5 months now and highly recommend the Gobi. Ill try lifting the nose as someone suggested. Will let you know...
  7. My seatpost snapped a week ago and the new seatpost and saddle is propably not 100% as per my prev setup. I havent measured the new setup but just adjusted until it felt right. Now, on my last 2 rides im greeted by nice painful red welts after my rides. Is this because of the possible setup change or could my saddle perhaps be damaged now? I cant see or feel anything wrong on the saddle but perhaps the wings (Fizik Gobi) could be damaged?
  8. This does make them special. I bought my bike there, and not even a high end bike. Evert shakes my hand everytime that i enter the shop. Chris Jnr sold me a set of XT's wheels and calls me on my name even though we propably spoke 5 sentences. (OK, perhaps a bit more) These are the things that makes a difference... I never look at prices anymore eg snapped my seatpost last Saturday and just asked them to replace it. Didnt even bother to shop around
  9. What was the short distance? Or has everyone followed the same route?
  10. Squirt for dry and Chain-L for wet. Squirt is cleaner and less mess. Chain-L lasts longer but if i apply as per instructions, it blackens my chain but it lasts much longer.
  11. Hope you had fun guys. Im recovering from the flu or something...
  12. Also try RWGPS.com You can draw the route on the internest (google based) and export to 3 different file formats
  13. The route changes almost every week. Normally approx 50km's, this time it was 40km approx Normal avg (i think) was 24-25 km/h before we hit majik forest.
  14. I must say that last night was propably the toughest compared to the last 3 times i joined the group. Looking at the profile this morning i can perhaps understand that. The entry into Durbanville from wellington road is a lot steeper than one things and the guys at the front really cranked up the pace. I had to stop at one of the robots and just check that i havent punctured , but was good to see that when i could go faster anymore, most of the group also fell off the leading 4+ guys. I also managed a new max heart rate on the ride so thank you guys ill be back next week for another beating, hopefully i will recover better
  15. A plug is so much faster than fitting a new tube. I plugged my wheel in under 5 min last week, and it was my 1st time so i still had to follow the instructions. Im sure it can be done in under 2 min though. Of course a sidewall tear is something completely different....
  16. Ok, seems the overwhelming advise is to carry a spare. Now to clarify, once i fit a inner tube, (ive never seen the inside of my wheelset ) does your LBS have to do something special to make it UST again, since you basically ripping out the valve to fit the tube????
  17. I dont walk, i normally phone the wife to come fetch me
  18. Since ive upgraded to UST wheelset, ive only carried my plugs and bombs along on rides. Havent even bothered to take a inner tube. Now ive heard some okes do still carry inner tubes as spares? Do you? and if you do, pls let me know why.
  19. Last night was certainly faster than normal for me, + more climbing than normal the back way round. Think i was home just after 8pm, approx 10 faster than last time... although last time we included Majik.
  20. Its my back cross mark that punctured. I just cant believe that the videos and reality is so far removed.... But honestly, have any if you and a nail through your tire and Stans seals up immediately when you take it out????? One has to admit those videos are damn impressive and very good marketing
  21. But do you all think the youtube videos are the real deal? Or just some fancy marketing....
  22. You have all probably seen the youtube video on Stans and it almost seems to good to be true. Guy punctures the tyre many time and Stand just seals the holes immediately. Then why is it not doing the same for me? This afternoon i had a 2mm wide steel object stuck in my tyre. I pulled it out, expecting Stans to seal it immediately, but nope. All the Stans come spurting out and didnt seal. I eventually had to plug the hole (my 1st time and managed it in a short space of time ) But i am mistified as to the big gap in my expectation and the reality. Anyone willing to commment or explain this?
  23. Check the CWC website for a special on the Maganese Gobi. The price is insanely low.
  24. Damn that Gobi has a good price!! I paid more for mine 2nd hand
  25. Just a question, when someone replies and quote another person, how can i see who he has quoted??? This was evident from the previous version but can not see this from the new Hub.
