  1. Will the bioplus not spike you too much before the race? Must admit i dont know Turbo Energy, who manufactures that?
  2. thing is that the Hydro Heat contains Methylhexanamine, commonly known as 1,3-dimethylamylamine or DMAA From wikipedia : In New Zealand, methylhexanamine (under the name 1,3-dimethylamylamine or DMAA) is an emerging active ingredient of party pills. A study reported that acute ingestion of 1,3-dimethylamylamine (75mg) alone and in combination with caffeine results in increased blood pressure without an increase in heart rate. and the stuff works for me, but i get severely dehydrated from it and sometimes the negatives outweigh the positives. Nothing beats training, im just interested in the various products people take + im really interested on any comments re Biogen Oxygen VO2
  3. Should i have clarified that im only looking for comments re over the counter products?
  4. Ive been "testing" a couple of energy drinks the last couple of month eg Evox / USN / PVM and lately Biogen. So far the Evox seems best re "feeling" but Biogen best from taste pov (it reminds me of the old Isostar). Together with this, ive also been experimenting with some of the other products from these companies. USN cramp block helps me a lot. Ive also tested the Evox Hydra Heat which i felt was giving me a considerable boost for the 1st 1/2 of a ride but it increases blood pressure so not necessarily a good thing. My latest test was Biogen Oxygen VO2 and must admit i cannot feel any difference / benefit from using this. Does anyone else have experience with Biogen Oxygen VO2 and would recommend it? Are there any of these other products (excluding drinks and gels) that you feel has any benefit? Eg ive read some of the sponsored cyclist use Biogen's biokick. PS, i know nothing beats good nutrition so pls do not start flaming me on that.

    SANI2C 2013

I dont get it, my buddy (we 1st timers) manage to get us waitlisted by just doing a normal entry almost a month ago...?? So not sure whether that was an accident / system error or what? should i know try and enter again on 15th Aug?
  7. Thanks for the update! Would also like to hear how it does on non technical long accents.. As it seems to be my bain, and also the reason i might prefer the scalpel, this will be a big deciding factor.
  8. ok, so someone needs to explain the impact to me if the BB raises if i fit 650b wheels. re the dale scalpel 29, that would be a dream bike but i dont want to fork out R58k + , therefor spending R32k on the 26er and then fitting 650b wheels for +- R8kmight give me an awesome bike. there are very few bikes which make my head turn, the dale and spez sworks are in that list but was just to pricy prev.
  9. Thats not Noway near detailed enough, I'm itching for some real meat on the report
  10. So I was thinking....what about taking the dale and then fitting a 650b wheel set to it? Incidentally the Xl dale comes with a 29er fork so probably won't need to get a diff lefty fork.. I've seen a company called spoke works who can perhaps build a lefty wheel set. Then just to find tires.. In the end it will prop cost me the same but I will have much lighter setup. Anyone think this could work?? Or, being of a non practical nature, I've forgotten of something crucial?
  11. this is a reocurring problem on those breaks , also elixir 5's i bought a new set, had them for a day and took them back to mu lbs to change for shimano slx. never been happier. touching break is one of my pet hates.
  12. What distance does your monitor show? My Garmin gave roughly the same access but only over 32km
  13. Yes, thats what im looking for. Someone with 1sthand experience So many people are recommending the Pyga but have never ridden it and basing their comments on the reviews. But the review did draw my attention as well and i spoke to one of the testers (Steve at cyclelab) who also believes that its a brilliant bike. Yes, and therein lies my frustration. I am not saying im going to win any races (in fact ill bet on not winning any races) but i would still want something that is considered to be fast. I am sure the Pyga is more comfortable but i wouldnt want to sacrifice speed for comfort. But the question is whether you are really sacrificing speed or not? which i suppose brings us back to the whole 26 vs 29 discussion. According to Steve, (and he is not dissing the 29er) the whole of South Africa is 29 verskrik while most of Europe is sticking to 26ers. If the Cannondale was 29er, would your answer have been the same? An everyone keeps saying that......, which is eventually probably the thing that will deter me from buying the Cannondale.... My aim is eventually to do the Sani2C next yr (and W2W this yr if i can get an entry). I might be looking at a hardtail as well, but reckon if the Pyga is getting such good reviews it must be worth it I just dont like the current brushed alu finish. I'll wait until a better looking frame is produced. The Cannondale is just available right now
  14. I had vest, cycle shirt, arm warmers + rain jacket on.... and that was perfect! Did not feel cold at all. Imo the leggies was a good choice, granted they did get wet + but i would have been worse off without them. BTW, when will the race results come out????
  15. Just visited Cyclelab today and they are putting a XL Cannondale Scalpel Carbon 3 26er on sale for R32,000 (new i think normally R38k to R40k). I was also contemplating the Pyga one-ten @ R40K. Specs for both below. The problem, i weigh 105kg, mostly a weekend warrior buy try to do a weekly night ride as well. The Pyga would probably weight approx 12kg+ and is 29er while the Cannondale comes in at 10.1kg but is a 26er. Both are dualies. The Cannondale is probably a better climber and racing machine while the Pyga is better at uneven terrain + downhills. The groupset on the Cannondale is slightly better ? Im torn between the 2, the Cannondale is a beautiful racing machine while the Pyga is the more rugged brother. But there is a R8,000 difference...... Which one would you recommend, taking into account the cost???? 16. I agree, lost at least 10 minutes trying to find the route with people cycling back and forth and obviously completely confused. Was directed by a "marshall" eventually to carry my bike over a fence and as such lost out on roughly 8km (the middle climb). could have been organised better imo. And trying to clean your bike at the finish was futile.. Ill be back next yr, but only if its not raining. Not that the rain was bad, the mud sliding was a unique experience. I just pity the guys who rode with no arm warmers / leg warmers. One guys was freezing a arse off at the finish while trying to pour sugar into his coffee. He almost missed the cup a couple of time
  17. Definitely the 60, it was loads more fun than the 40 last yr. 40 had almost no single track ( i heard people complain) while i enjoyed the 60 a lot
  18. The only xtr parts on my bike ismy chain, which i bought based on advice, and must say, i think it made abhuge difference to the life span of my chain and cluster. i use a xt cluster, xtr chain and rest is slx. before this i had to replace chain and cluster regularly but since the xtr chain was fitted i reckon its doubled the lifespan. this of course my own opinion. and the xtr chain was R80 more than the xt at cwc back then, therefore def felt i saved some bucks in the longrun as cassete and chainnreplacement would have cost me a lot more. and belive me, ive taken to cwc a couple of times to test my chain as i just couldnt believe that it could last that long
  19. damn, somehow the pyga just spoke to me. im just finding it difficult to formulate an argument on how splashing 40k would make my wife's life a better place :
  20. i woyld be keen to know what weight the duallie would come too on the top spec option, seeing that its not carbon
  21. so, has anyone received their pyga yet? i would really like to know the bike is really that awesome
