  1. Hi Guys, As the title states haven't been in the cycle market since school. Looking at getting a starter MTB. Looking at Merida TFS-100 for R5200 or a Scott Aspect 30 for R4700. There's also the option of the Scott Aspect 10 for well a lot, this would mean eating bread and water for the next month . Really don't want to go over 5K. Friend just got the Aspect 30 and my boss the TFS-100 both feel the same. Opinions? Thx Carl
  2. I am quick to complain but will also compliment when appropriate. I bought a Merida MTB in Dec'09 and then decided to buy a road bike and again went for Merida. I like the brand and they are very good value for money when compared to other brands. The compliment goes to Derek & Robiie from Cytek Cycle Distributors who respond to a concern I had with regards to a cracked fork within hours. To top it off it was only a scratch and I was just being paranoid but they were incredibly professional and accomodating. I dropped of my bike at Westedene cycles (where I bought it) on Monday 1 November 2010 and within 24 hours Cytek had already collected it, checked it out, polished the scratch out for me and also given the bike a once over to see if everything else was ok. Impecible service creates huge loyalty. Well done and thank you!
  3. Were attacked by two young 20 year old black guys one of them were armed approximately 7H00 in the morning, Sunday 31 Oktober in the Minandi area. 4. Hi all I'm looking to buy a new MTB (mainly for weekend rides and maybe one or two light XC races) and have my eye on these two options: Merida TFS 500 D (R7 600) Merida TFS 800 D (R9 600) The main differences (other than the price) are: Merida 500: Rock Shox Dart 3 100 Poploc Shimano Deore shifters and front derailleur (XT 9 speed at the back) Brakes Shimano M445 180/160 mm Merida 800: RST First Air 100 Remote Shimano XT shifters and front derailleur (XT 10 speed at the back) Brakes Shimano M505 180/160 mm My question is, do you think the 2K price difference is worth it? My budget allows me to go up to 10K on a new bike - do you guys think there's anything better out there in that price range? Thanks
  5. having ridden both these bikes in a car park I was wondering if they are a similar ride out on the trail, I'm inclined to think the 96 is a harder ride is this true. I'm using the Anthem 1 2008 model and looking for a new steed have started doing races but want to get into stage racing so far its between the epic alu version( pricey but proven), the 96 ???( racy but a hard ride 2011 excellent value), giant anthem( fair value but proven), the ghost( good value unproven in SA but by all account a good international rating) and a zula ( quality build, simple, heavy)
  6. The bike has Full Carbon frame,Fox fork,DT rear shock,XTR components all around, XTR wheelset with mountain king tubless tyres. Condition of the bike = OK - frame has some scratches and all the cables will need to be replaced What would you pay for it ? Some advise would be appreciated
  7. I have a Merida 96 3000d which comes out with the X fusion 02 rear shock. I find the travel of the rear to be lacking when it comes to small bump complience, it only seems to work on big hits or square edge hits. For example when going down steep rocky descents when the back wheel takes a hit lifts up and trys to go over the handle bars this bucking of the rear make decent difficult even with all my weight as far over the rear wheel as possible . I have lowered the shock preasure and it make the bike feel a bit wallowy. So fellow 96 riders what is the magic sage setting in terms of % of the shock travel or in terms of mm While we talkiing about this bike the Magura on the front works really well but on big hits it make a loud shreeking sound- anyone with this problem?. Thanks
  8. Hi All A mate is looking to upgrade to a dual susser and the 3000D (sounds like a double cab) is one of his options. What should he be looking to pay for one of these? Any owners here that can comment on the bike?

  10. Hi I can not decide between these two bikes: http://www.silverbacklab.com/2011/spectra.jpg And http://www.merida-bikes.com/en_int/bike/41/MTB+Hardtail/MATTS+TFS+800-D Spectra R11 500 Merida R9 800 (and they said they will convert the rims and put on tubeless tyres for R700 more)
  11. Who knows what the colour code for Merida Green is? I want to make some custom stickers and want to get the colour matched perfectly. Ingo
  12. I have a Merida AM 3000 bought in 2008. Everything pretty standard I think - XT components. I had a tubeless conversion done and it has new Continental Mountain King tyres. Mileage is probably about 2000km in total overall in very good condition. Any ideas on the value? I recently bought a 29er and now need to sell.

  22. i was wondering if anyone out there could tell me which each is better adapted to, i've been looking at the 96 and the 120 duel sus range, and i can no where find what each is specialzed for? in terms of xc, all mountain etc.
  23. a Friend of mine is seriously looking for a meduim size mtb. He now came accorss this bike what woud be a reasonable price for it? Merida TFS XC 500 (2008) XT components Rock Schock(will try and find out which one) 700km on the clock
  24. OK so its decision time. I can get a Merida 96 Carbon 3000 for R35K. XT crank set, FOX 32 100RL, X0 gripshift or I can get a Morewood Zula for R40K. Truvativ Stylo Crankset, RS Reba Team 120mm, XO gripshift. I currently ride a merida FLX 3000 hard tail. Awesome bike, climbs like a rocket, but I need a bit of comfort for enduro and multi stage racing and enjoy technical riding. I am 1.8m and weigh about 90kg's. I am worried that the Merida carbon frame will not be able to support my weight and riding style. I must admit that I am more than just a little in love with the Zula, but dropping R40K needs more than just an infactuation. It needs a bit of common sense. Besides... I'll then have to change my username Your thoughts please.
