  1. Hey guys, Today I went to pick up my bike from This Way Out and I was amazed how many cyclist I saw without helmets. Yeah, they are not in Tygerberg MTB Club or any other, but still... It is like riding a car without a safety belt. This one oke was driving on Fairtrees Rd (16:15) with medium traffic without a helmet. Best of all, he was driving an XTC Advanced 29er 2 LTD. Surely he can afford a helmet. There is also a dirt path which he could have followed instead of being on the road with cars flying by. I do not want to rant, but I am pretty stretch about wearing a helmet and will always be. No matter what the scenario. Heck, I even wear my helmet when visiting my friend in a residential area about 1km away. No Helmet No Ride
  2. I was wonder where a place is safer for a solo cyclist to ride and plan to stay for the weekend in Gauteng? Mageliesburg? Hartbeespoot? Your post will be appreciate.
  3. For those of you old enough to remember Cream, or perhaps with parents old enough to have played Cream on their 8 track, Ginger Baker died a few days ago. Man what a drummer   Anyway, it's not just that I loved Cream when I was a teenager, both Baker and Clapton were avid cyclists and I picked up this blog from The Retrogrouch. Retrogrouch Re-Run: In Honor of Ginger Baker I saw in the news this weekend that legendary rock drummer Ginger Baker has died. Though it doesn't, on the surface, seem to have much to do with a bike blog, many of us who obsess over classic and vintage bicycles know that Baker, along with musical partner and equally legendary rock guitarist Eric Clapton, was once an avid cyclist and maybe (dare I say?) a bit of a bike geek. A few years back, I wrote about the bike connection - mostly in regards to Clapton, but also Baker - and their classic album: Cream's Disraeli Gears. I don't have anything new to post today, but it seemed appropriate to do a "Retrogrouch Re-Run" of that post. Here it is: I was listening to Disraeli Gears by Cream the other day and it got me thinking about bicycles. Bicycles? Really? Yep. ................................. if you're interested, click on the link. http://bikeretrogrouch.blogspot.com/2019/10/retrogrouch-re-run-in-honor-of-ginger.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheRetrogrouch+%28The+Retrogrouch%29
  4. Need to know which trail is safe to ride alone. There are too many trails, not too sure whereabout good to go and ride. Your feedback will be great.
  5. So after hearing and reading about cyclist being hijacked and robbed while cycling, coupled with our high crime rate. I have decided to invest in a concealed shooting device. I have my eye on a couple of devices, but my concern is where do I put it when cycling? So far the best place is on the chest. Any other areas?
  6. I am escaping the European winter between Jan 13 and Feb 9 to ride in the sun of Cape Town, and am looking for cycling partners. I bring my road bike. Am willing to rent a mountain bike. Fit athlete of 41. Stay in Sea Point. Plan to ride daily. Who wants to ride with me? Train with me? Show me the best roads? Thanks, Hans Comyn (Google, Facebook, Youbube, Gmail,...)
