  1. Hey guys, Anyone on the hub experiment with their own 3D printing? Its an exciting industry that i'm only recently dabbling in but the potential for truly custom parts is really cool. Anyone made their own quadlock/garmin mounts, tri-bars etc etc. Keen to see whats out there
  2. Hi Hubbers, So this video is a year old now but has anyone here built/welded/carbon lay up a frame together from scratch? If so please do share details and pics😁 I don't currently have the tool-set but think it would still be an awesome project.
  3. I recently got a Gravel frame custom made for me by the awesome guys over at Calculus Bikes. The frame arrived the other day, and after a fairly effortless build of my old parts across, I took her for a spin. The bike immediately feels right, like how you would imagine a bike that was made for you to feel. Being a gravel bike, the fit won't be super aggressive, but it's far from a lounge chair. It's comfortable but also feels like it's rearing to race. The power transfer is great. I loved getting out the saddle and pushing up some of the gravel climbs, and on the road is no different. On the looks side of things, it's gorgeous. Both the titanium itself and the actual lines are beautifully simple. There are places to fasten panniers and ample space for wider tires for long more technical adventures.
  4. Hi Everyone I am thinking of building another wheel with a single speed free hub, any suggestions? Kind Regards Pieter
  5. I successfully petitioned Santa (aka Mrs mountain_lion) for a smart watch. Over the holidays I tried my hand at building custom watch faces using the Facer platform. They have a web based creator with a not to steep learning curve and allow you to share your creations for free. Anybody else here using Facer or other platforms like WatchMaker / Galaxy Watch Designer etc? Which platform do you prefer and why? My first attempt was this: https://www.facer.io/watchface/HxTIRrVbvU And then I challenged myself with this: https://www.facer.io/watchface/DQl9GCshpI and then did even more just for fun (beer glass, lego, new year etc). See https://www.facer.io/u/mountainlion for all my creations, they are all free to use if you like. (You do need the Facer apps on your watch and paired phone though).
  6. HI, can anyone recommend someone to do a custom paint job on a pair of S-works cycling shoes? Thanks.
  7. We're looking for some ideas about building the ultimate titanium dream bike. Any recommendations from the room given it's Friday?
  8. We are auctioning a one-off custom design & paintjob to the highest paying hubbing bidder. This is in aid of: "Friends of mine were expecting twins, but the babies arrived at 28 weeks. The little boy did not survive. The parents need to sell the Graco twin stroller / car seat system. With medical expenses piling up they cannot just throw it out, even though it breaks their hearts to see it in their home." ~ Copied from the thread HERE. The winning bid will get - a one of custom design by Hasie & the Robots - design masterfully applied to the frame supplied by you by Bogus Designs. Note: - You have to supply the frame - Shipping will be for your own account - Bid increments of R50 - 100% of the winning bid will go towards the cause The auction starts today and will close on 5 September 2017 at 23:59 Dear Hubbers, for more information about why we are collecting for teeny preemie Karmi, please refer to this thread: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/169450-please-help-a-preemie/page-1 The auction starts now and will end on 5 September 2017 at 23:59. 9. Hello fellow bikehubbers. So awhile back I was extremely fortunate to win the Oakley x Ubuntu Bikes competition sponsored by The Lake Magazine. I was ecstatic, and still am. The bike is a beauty in it's own right. The only thing is the bike is made from a mixture of parts, and most likely more of a collector's item than a full-on fixie. I have ridden it more than a few times, but I am quite afraid to switch from freewheel to the fixed gear considering the parts and a chance of something breaking. I can only seem to find the name of three parts which is the crank and chainring both are Suntour SR and the hubs are Shimano. I would just want to know what I could get for this bike, because I am considering to buy a more purpose built fixie. TIA, Oscar The bike: http://www.ubuntubikes.com/lake-magazine-x-oakley-fixie-colloaboration/

  12. Okay so fist pic is of A bike Yoke ( Yoke on my bike looks very very similar) now second pic is from a guy that hydro dipped a part of his frame , I'm not cray about the graphic but idea is very interesting to me Now I know very little about hydro dipping so my main question is ,will something like that yoke/suspension link be too complicated shape wise to have A graphic transfered onto ? What are your thoughts around something like this ? I like custom parts that make my bike unique and this is quite out there
  13. I'm seriously running out of ideas for new topics up in this place. But anything is better than the same regurgitated threads resurfacing with the same topics that were covered several times over and over again. #amiright? So! If some of you just can't shake that juvenile tendency to slap stickers on stuff. Here's the place to display your immaturity. Commi Glory
  14. Hi everyone, So I have a helmet (Bell event XC mips) that I'm rather fond of. It's the black/white model as I couldn't find the plain black model in stock anywhere when I purchased it. Does anyone know/recommend anyone who would be able to paint/wrap it to make it plain black? Does anyone have any recommendations to doing this or not? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
  15. I have an open question to all the Hubbers out there: Do you think there is room for bamboo bikes on the SA cycling stage? There are some very good arguments for bamboo bikes, but yet we don't see them around our races, on training rides or in the streets parked outside nice coffee bars. How do you think this observation is to be explained? Looking forward to your words of wisdom and insight. CB
  16. So I've been doing some digging on my own but figured I'd ask here too. Anybody have any experience with a chinese titanium frame? Read a bit on some other forums and seems to be a similar deal to the carbon stuff, but you can customise as you please... Prices seem to be in the region of $700 but that seems to be for a custom one- looking into a standard one- trying to get a price on the same geo as an on-one. So far I've found Waltly to be friendly and eager to help. Anyway, thoughts, suggestions and experiences welcome.
  17. Hello everyone. I am planning a 4 day tour cycling ride to Afrika Burn along with a lesser able adventurer. I need a modified bike that will be able to carry him. Does anyone know of such a beast here in the greater Cape Town area? Any help would be much appreciated. here is a link to our ride from last year... Much love. Sebastian 0785223796
  18. I'm looking to get a custom paint job done on my cruiser, anyone know a good paint shop in the Cape Town or Helderberg area that might do one?
