  1. I am in the market for a new set of tires and found a great deal on the Pirelli Enduro range through Takealot. However, there are two options, they offer the Soft range and then the Medium/Mixed range at a bit of higher price. Both are well within budget, I am just unsure which would be best for Cape Town and it's surrounds terrain. Any advice would be appreciated! Enduro Soft : https://www.takealot.com/pirelli-scorpion-27-5-x-2-6-enduro-soft-terrain-cycling-tyre/PLID71579396 Enduro Mixed : https://www.takealot.com/pirelli-scorpion-27-5-x-2-6-enduro-mixed-terrain-cycling-tyre/PLID71579393 I ride mostly short burst enduro trails (10-25km) in and around Cape Town.
  2. Seeing as there are no Maxxis DHR II or Agressor tyres in 29er 2.3" in the country I'm looking for feedback on the following two tyres as a rear tyre on an enduro/trail bike! I'm also open to other recommendations! Most of my riding is done on dry hard pack, rock gardens, loose rocks and roots. Predominantly in Tokai as well as Hoogekraal, Contermanskloof, Jonkershoek etc. Grip is important but I still want the tyre to roll fast! I'm currently running a DHF upfront! I was looking at the Specialized Eliminator 29x2.3" with a grid trail casing and T7 rubber compound as well as the Schwalbe Hanz Dampf 29x2.35" in a super trail/super gravity casing and the addix soft rubber compound! Would love to hear your experiences and feedback with these tyres?
  3. I'm looking for either a Maxxis Minion DHR II or Aggressor for a 29" rim, it must be the 2.3" wide tyre in a Double Down (DD) casing, I have tried most of the shops I could think of in the Southern Suburbs/CBD in Cape Town. Please let me know of stores elsewhere which have a wide range of Maxxis trail/enduro tyres!
  4. Hi was just wondering what size tyres pyga stage owners have been able to fit on their frames. I know spec sheet states 2.35. Im running 2.25's at the moment and it looks like there is alot of room left in the rear. Would like to try 2.4 if thats possible. However i know all tyres are different..
  5. Hi all. Hoping to get some feedback on the Airsun Mount Cook tyre (or any Airsun tyre for that matter). Buycycle has a special running today for 2x 29er 2.25 120TPI Mount Cooks for R399, which is a pretty sweet deal. My riding is all in Gauteng, 50% road, 30% gravel / simple singletrack, 20% "park" (jumps etc.). Currently have a 2.1in Michelin Wild Grip'R on the front, 2.2in Chaoyang Hornet 60TPI at the back, both of which are in need of replacement relatively soon. I would have wanted to get a 2.4in front tyre for a bit more comfort, but the 2.25 Airsun is a good enough improvement over my current 2.1. Any feedback, inputs or experience with these tyres? Doing Transbaviaans in a month, would ideally like to get a fresh set of rubber on before then.
  6. Good morning Hubbers! A happy Monday to all. Congratulations to all who finished the CTCT 2020, and to those who achieved PBs, well done! To those who came short, I wish you all a speedy recovery. Back to the matter at hand, what, in your opinion, is the best outdoor road training tyre? I've been using Conti GP4000 SIIs for a while now, and they haven't let me down too much. Roads in the South are shocking at best, so my tyres have got more cuts and pinches than I care to count. Common wisdom dictates that Gatorskins (Hardshell or not) is your best bet, but the ride is very hard. Conti tyres are prone to side wall deterioration, more than I've seen from any other OEM. What's your opinion?
  7. Hi Guys I come from a mtb background and am new to road cycling and recently bought a secondhand bike. (2015 Specialized Secteur Sport). I have a couple of questions: The bike currently has specialized Espoir Sport (700x25C) tyres on the front and back. When riding this afternoon I got a cut on the back tyre from a piece of glass in the road. I ran 8 bar pressure in both tyres. 1) Is the above tire a decent tire? 2) Can one put a different tire on the back than the front? 3) Will adding some Stans sealant to the tubes throw of the balancing? 4) Is there any other way to make the tyres less puncture prone? 5) Which tires would you recommend that is more puncture resistant? Looking forward to your replies. Regards

  10. I've been running Conti's (race king) for a few years now, but the last two has let me down spectacularly. Both times the side wall failed. At R 800 to a R 1000 a pop (pun intended) I've got no further interest in using conti's. So I'm in the market for a new brand. (I've had Schwalbe before and was not impressed) I do mainly marathon type riding so longevity and rolling resistance trumps grip. But the tyre should allow for occasional rough stuff. Thanks
  11. This year will be the first time I do a super long marathon, any recommendations on rubber choice for the event from hubbers who completed the race before?
  12. Hello fellow mountain bikers. I have read though many, MANY threads regarding mountain bike tyres, yet I am just as confused as before. In fact, I am probably more confused than ever before. What I have concluded is that its 50% preference, and 50% required riding type (terrain). With having said that, I am in search of advice for selecting the most appropriate tyres for me specifically. I live in Cape Town, and I ride mostly single track. I am 25, and weigh approximately 75kg (185cm tall). I am not a pro (no duh...), but I like to think I go pretty quickly down the single tracks, although I only started riding last year November. I ride a Large 2014 Giant Trance 02, which has a 650B 27.5" wheel-set. PLEASE NOTE: I am looking for Maxxis tyre options and combinations ONLY! If you are going to contribute to this thread, please comment with a combination of both front AND rear tyre options, rather than saying things like "aah, why Maxxis?", or "Continental is much better!" etc etc etc. I have used Continental's on my previous bike, and I am wanting to try out Maxxis tyres in particular, so please just accept that, and give me constructive advice... If any. Thank you in advance to those who find the time to give me genuine options and combinations Here is a photo of my exact bike below:
  13. Searched a bit here and google, but can't seem to find an answer. I have been playing around with different pressures to see what works best for me, on the front 1.8 bar feels best, however since dropping from 2 bar a creak has developed on the wheel, like when you squeeze spokes to check tension and they creak. Whats weird is that when I raise the pressure back to 2 bar the creak disappears, drop it to 1.8 bar and its back. Do the spokes need to be tensioned more at lower pressures? Does the pressure in the tyre add to the stiffness of the wheel?
