DaSH82 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) I am looking at getting a mtb again, and leaning more towards freeride. The 3 options i am looking at are the Scott Genius LT 20 or the Santa Cruz Butcher or Santa Cruz Bullit.I like the Genius option due to the 3 options for the rear suspension, which would be abonus when doing normal riding. But really like the butcher too, which has the pro pedal and the bullit looks like a machine! What are your opinions on these 3 bikes. Which would be the best option?Or maybe some other options i have not thought about? Edited March 4, 2011 by DaSH82
ichnusa Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 go for the scott if you willing to spend half your time waiting for them to repair the shock... i love my santa cruz bikes...
pierremerv Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I would also go for the bike with the less complicated rear shock. I reckon the santa cruz butcher.

If you are looking for a all mountain bike where you will still need to pedal quite a bit and hit some agrresive trail riding then look to the butcher or scott or even better the santa cruz nomad. The bullit is more a freeride bike and not that pedal friendly, but will get you there. It is a workhorse and loved by many. If you need to climb, leave the bullit. If you want to huck, jump and go big - go for the bullit or try find a second hand vp-free. Have a serious look at the nomad too.

This bike is supposed to slay trails with comfort. I wouldnt mind one myself. Did you get a price for the Butcher.
EvilRabbit Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I would also go for the bike with the less complicated rear shock. I reckon the santa cruz butcher. Not sure I understand why? The shock is one of many components and can be swapped out for various options to suit riding styles. I guess you could say the same about the drivetrain, brakes, fork etc too. If anything the frame would be the most NB thing as it costs the most...
Kranswurm Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 The Feb copy of What Mountain Bike has a review on the Santa Cruz Butcher Go buy it and read it.If you are not going to hammer the bike go for something else
