Hi folks

I want to try my 1st hundred this sunday. I heard van gaalens is a 100km.

Just want to know how is the terrain and how heavy are the climbs.

Oh and not to forget can anybody tell me the exact location as I only have a rough

Idea on how to get there.

Thanks in advance

From Van Gaalens cheese farm to top of Breedts and back is 100km. Its about 1100m ascent and all farm roads so not technical at all :)

There are various routes at VG that could possibly make up 100km but it will be a long day in the saddle if you do some of the climbs there, my fav loop is about 50km, going over the concrete slabs, back to oom piet's and home via river singletrack...very lekker trail with some tech, climbs and singletrack....good mix

If you have your heart set on a 100km for TITS...rather do this bad boy...Start at VG go to the top of breedts and back, 103km

PS...If it's your first time at VG, you will get lost if you try and attempt 100km in loops in and around the farm.

van Gaalen is perfect for a hard day's training. There are a few lung busting climbs at van Gaalen, namely the concret road, Pofadder and Oom Piets.

Depending on your route selection it's a mix of dirt road, rocky trails and flowing singletrack.

Every ride there is a workout and equally as fun, arguably some of the best riding in the country.

Next time you do this route please let me know, I am keen to check it out.

Cheers

lekker...its a good day in the saddle, if we have enough mieliepap before we go we might go down the other side of breedts...+- 120 then

My mates are doing the Van G - breedts tomorrow. Yawn.

I'm keen to ride Van G. I know a pretty murderous route that includes going the "wrong way" up pofadder and some other climbs and the nasty last speed bump that was in the Nissan race. It's about 75km but a good 4-5hours riding. I'll be there at about 6.30 on Chumba.

Hmmm good thing I saw this thread. U guys think that the 100km route should be good prep for the Karoo2Coast later this year?

Ja defnitely, the route is not technical at all though...district road. But for TITS and lung busting climbs you won't beat it, if i was doing the Epic or Joberg2C that route + suikerbosrand would be my staple, you might want to go over the other side if you feel strong at the top of breedts. That will then give you a 120 odd km ride.

What I like about the VG route is the ice cold mitchell's on tap at the end...from about 20km out that becomes serious motivation.

I don’t have a gps. Can anyone maybe give some directions for this 100km route? I’ve never been up ‘breedts neck’ either

check the map on the right hand side, rode this a while ago and logged it on my edge 500, might want to do this with someone that knows the area.

biggest things to remember if you havent done this route

1.turn right going out VG...duh

2.go straight when the tar goes left about 2-3 km out of VG.

3.follow road until you hit a T-junction...turn right

4.follow road until you hit another T, this time meeting tar road, turn right

5.Go past bp garage, look out for district road on your right(about 1-2km from garage, turn right)

6.follow road you hit T-junction...turn right...climb to top of breedts(you will know when you are at the top)

7.Have a sami, check the view

8.Chase back the same way you came knowing there is a ice cold mitchell's with your name on it at VG.

PS start early, it could be a long day.
