Well done all you sub-3ers! I'm def going to try joining you next year - anything to avoid the damn traffic jams (why is it that everyone thinks they're fast and need to ride on the right? On several occasions it was faster to pass on the left - the lane was virtually open - and I even used the right hand gutter up Boyes Drive).

Reason I was asking how they set the group start time is because I did 3:00:05 on my bike computer :)

Started from group L for an almost entire solo ride to the finish. Came 2nd in my group so there's one L rider with a guaranteed sub3.

It felt strange feeling so lonely amongst enormous bunches of riders :)

The guy who took the group win didn't play it very nice though, I pulled him all the way up Chaps screaming 'left' and 'passing' and setting the pace etc. just to see him sprint away 50m from me on Suikerbossie & finding a quick tandem on the long downhill... Together both of us would have a guaranteed sub-3.

I guess he wanted the group win  ...

Still I don't need to say I was happy doing it in 3h finding my way through hundreds and hundreds of people during my Argus TT.

Ended up doing 3:00:15.

Crazy to see that the last group riding Sub3's in front of us was E (2finishers in F-bunch). So that means I passed by quite a bit of F-G-H-I-J-K on the road :)

Yes, AirBender, I did exactly what I was trying to avoid. Hard to try and keep a group together when some chaps are so intent on letting gaps form and when you next look it's 20m and growing. You can only chase that so many times when you are trying to recover after doing a pull at the front. I was feeling strong on the flats and did my share plus of pulling. It's funny how when you go back from the D\E groups how the dynamics are so different. Everyone wants to ride a fast time and outside chance, possibly do the magical number, but they're hoping to wheelsuck their way around the whole route to it!

Must say, that even if I had been in the right places at the right times I doubt I would've got under 3:05. The legs just wouldn't keep the pace up on the final hills.

Nice to meet you chaps Buchu and Ceres. We did a great effort on the Soetwater to Chappies stretch! You guys and Spat dropped me on Chappies. Good ride!

I'm satisfied with my ride either way. Only disappointment is that I did not have more on a day when the weather conditions were so perfect for riding a PB!

@Airbender - You still haven't given anyone your time? All your talk in the run up to the Argus, I thought you would be doing a Sub 3 for sure.

Stefan that's a FANTASTIC effort from that group! The same strength in a faster group and you'll give those 15 seconds the great big middle finger! Keep it up for next year and it's yours for sure!

Are you sure you have reset your odo before the start, because the reading should be anything between 109 and 110 km.

Tubehunter,

My strategy wasn't very smart either...

Pulled from the start like Darren Lill and fizzled out like a cheap fire-cracker on Chappies and beyond.

I burnt all my matches too soon. And I didn't have too many for this race with limited training time.

I laaik the fact that I backed myself over the 1st 60 kms.

Wasn't so close to several crash points. Yikes!

Happy to be going for my recovery ride now without any plasters or bandages.

Hey Bender, had a peep at your result, good going my man. What was your kit colour choice, black or red?

My goal for the season was:

PB for most races.

A podium finish in my group at least once.

And a few others.

My time was 3:28. A PB!

A brave effort after weeks on the road away from my 'Dale.

Thanx, man. It was a daring effort!

I went with Assos Attack Mode Red kit with a few matches to burn.

And burnt tar until Little Chappies!

Thanx, cycling gods, for a season with all my goals met and a bonus purchase of my so sweet Cannondale machine!
