Thank you, regard...

The rider asks for advice ABOUT ASSOS product types as originator of the thread and it becomes warped with consumer opinions.

What I really do not understand on the Hub is that every time someone wants to buy something decent/slightly more expensive, they get flamed for it. Bibs, cars, bikes, etc, etc...

Why all the jealeousy?

Hell, if you have the money buy the most expensive what can afford. If you do not have the money don't try to flame things you can't afford, it is bad style.

p.s: The Mille is better for longer rides. If your budget only allow Uno buy them with the certanty that you still get quality products.

Spot on  , but expensive is not always better.

a fool and his money is easily parted.

everyone is just looking out for each other.

Can I afford a R60 000 bike, yes, would i buy one? Hell no, i will just look like a chop who does not know what he is doing.

and then maybe we can soon get some heated handle bar grips with a solar panel on the stem to warm our hands in winter with our double padded fleece gloves and cashmere under garments!!

That is a really weird statement? All bibs look like that, don't they?

The statement suggests that i am not a serious rider and should not be taken seriously. (only serious riders shave their legs dont they?)

Besides - the one in question costs half of the price of a F1 Mille and I promise you the chamois is on par and the fit is better - I rode that exact bib on the first 3 days of 2010 J2C and that was over the worst section of grass tufts you can imagine , on a hardtail.

It is a truly good bib at a very good price, but if you want to spend R3k on an Assos bib - I tried to point to a useful alternative.

I was not refering to the brand but the bib concept. 10 points for saving people money

As your signature says...

exactly, i'm not pretending, egos on this tread are way to big, maybe i should change it to "MTB ACE" ;)

Agree!!

That is why I didn't buy a useless X5 as my 4x4 but a 1990 Range Rover. And it is not becuase I can't aford it, I just know which one is 100000x times more capable.

But some time you get what you pay for, and like previously mentioned, I do not want my bud to protess on day 3 of a stage race.

Harden the f^%k up. Put hours in the saddle, and you can do the epic in MR Price bibs. FFS! Bunch of girls with more money than brains.

Remember, unlike golf, you can't buy a good game on a bicycle.

Yup you're right, I'm pretty sure Burry could do the Epic on a Hyperama special bike with the fork turned the wrong way around, and still whip most if not all comers. Not really the point though is it. If you can afford the best and/or most expensive kit, then buy it. If something exists out that there that will make your ride more comfortable, ergo better, then why the hell not buy it if you can or are willing to pay for it.

So whilst you may not be able to buy a good game (I'd venture you can't in golf either), you sure as hell can buy a better game, ala disc vs. rim brakes, tubeless vs tubes, etc. Personally I think Assos are the dogs bollocks, I own 2 pairs of Mille's that I bought in 2002 and they're still more comfortable than my 2 year old Endura's. At the time they cost R1100 I think, so, that's about R220 per year on bibshorts for the 2 over say 10 years - cheap in my books.... Just that initial cash outlay that makes my eyes water. Nothing else I've ever owned in bidshorts come even close to that lifespan.

Haven't bought since, but will be soon. Uno's will do fine for me thanks.

+1

I used to do 4hr rides with shorts and underpants back in the early 90s, and I'm still here. Sure, better shorts/bibs are more comfortable, but geez, Cape Storm or First Ascent are just fine. Even the relatively cheap branded Anatomic kit I have is adequate in 99% of cases.

I got a huge skrik at the argus expo - the new first ascent shorts were selling for R1400 !!!

nee donner .... they just lost a loyal customer right on the spot, and I told the oke so. Not going to buy first ascent cycling shorts again.
