Night rides - Tokai

Anyone wanting to get this started?

 

Very keen to do some night rides but not sure how to go about it as far as permission to ride in Tokai etc.

 

Let me know if anyone has more knowledge.

Apparently it's STILL illegal to "ENTER" after dark.....so plan accordingly.

If you are caught WITHOUT a permit then you run the risk of wrecking it for those that ride there at night already.

So get your pass before you go.

If you do get it going, I would definitely be keen depending on what day of the week... I'm not the best MTB'er technically, but am fairly fit still I like to think. I know the place is somewhere in Tokai to get the permits, but not sure where exactly (think it's in Westlake business park, but may be wrong).

According to the brochure at Westlake TMNP office:

 

1) Permitted on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays

2) Have a valid permit

3) Sign register when entering the gate

4) Minimum 3 riders

5) Minimum 2 cellphones

6) Sign register when exiting the gate

7) No entry after 20:00

8) No riding after 22:00

9) Parking at own risk

10) No riding in Silvermine

 

Id suggest you buy a permit from the hut and try it first if you like it then get a annual permit from the westlake office.

 

EDIT: Oh I forgot

 

11) Each rider has own light and helmet (pretty obvious though id suggest taking a backup light aswell)

 

I've been doing this for awhile and its super fun

Your facts are 100% correct.

 

I called the office. You must have a permit but would recommend an annual wild card as then you dont need to get a permit every time.

 

Let me know who is keen. Might start next week. Need 3 people or more.

About 20 or so of us meet at Pick n Pay Steenberg ( next to REDDAM HOUSE) at 7:15 pm every Thursday night , ride for about 2 hrs, R3SL.

Do not park at Tokai after dark in the Arbouretum , cars have been brocken into there.

Depending on the fitness level, I am very keen to join in... I live very close to there so can cycle down to Steenberg. I don't mind if it's a slightly slower ride, but don't want to hold anyone up. How far do you normally ride?

Hi all, I was there this am - visiting down from the ECape for two months and was keen to update re costs etc - picked up a pamphlet called SANP Mountain Biking in Tokai and Silvermine, which has a map, code of conduct (which includes the instruction to 'Control your Bicycle!'?, and right at the back has a little table stating that Day Permit Riders have to be out of the park by 6pm from April to Sept and 8.30 for the rest of the year - so you have to buy a wild card, which sucks if you're not here for the whole year...or just take your chances, I guess...
