So,

Yesterday afternoon I hopped on my bike for my first ride since the Argus, bar a 32 km mtb ride on Monday

I have a steep hill about 150m from my house, here my HR went above zone 4, and did not drop lower than that till 80 minutes later, when I got home again :o .

Stats:

Ride time 85 minutes.

Ride distance - 36,5 km

Total ascent - 295m

Average speed - 25,7 km/h

Zone 4 - 40:38 minutes

Zone 5 - 41 minutes

This morning I feel nothing more than what I would feel after a normal ride. I actually felt more soreness after my MTB ride :)

The question is this, what should I aim for in the next training phase? I can clearly maintain this tempo for a while, and judging by my Argus ride, where I actually rode a lot of my time in Zone 3 (70%), the strong finish suddenly does not surprise me.

I am still slow compared to other riders, but for me this is faster than I have ever been

Should I now start to focus on weightloss and watch the stats improve? (probably about 15-20 kg overweight)

I don't think base training is such an issue, as I actually had no endurance issue with the Argus. I just don't want to chase the wrong goal in my training. The weak point is still my climbing speed, at least I don't die on the climbs anymore

Any input, including "You idiot, don't do that again!!" is welcome

my advice is to stop worrying about this zone this zone that cr@p and just ride your bike. argus was ages ago, wtf have you been busy with in the meantime?

I kinda think the same, just frigging ride  . I would enjoy the weighloss aspect as well tho

Exercise is not equal to weightloss

It is better than no exercise, but yes, I am watching what I eat and how much of it too....

Have dropped about 8 kg since the start of the year, which, when coupled with my increased fitness has added to my climbing ability

Ride more eat less, train with water.

If your heart rate is 0 reach for the jumper cables, otherwise put foot!

Eat less (less cr@p and more healthy stuff), train more - that's what I did. Now 15Kg's lighter than Oct 2009 (108Kg's)

I was at 108 in January, down to 100

I basically follow your rigorous diet plan

No more seconds,

Less bread and related

1 type of carb per meal

Once a week I have junk food, mostly maccas, chicken burger (1 portion, otherwise it feels like a prison camp)

I don't have a sweet tooth, so chocolate and sweets is not an issue

Coke...maybe 1-2 glasses a week

More dried fruit as snacks

Couple of spoons of yoghurt if I get peckish, no viennas and cheese and other handy snacks

I train on water only, as I mostly ride for around 2 hrs max. It is definitely paying off

@Azonic - Dude, you have no idea of the depth of lazyness. I have actually started to ride in the arvo, just so I don't have to get up early. Arvo riding actually works well, I get all the day's mental crap out of my system  And I sleep better. I don't watch TV, so nothing to miss there
