Any recommendations with regards to getting a plan? Really determined to do it next year, but not sure where to get a proper plan. Been going for some swim technique coaching to ensure that i am doing thing correct. Decent cyclist so my limiter is the running...which i am prepared to work on.

Been reading Joe Friels book, busy with "Going long" now. this hasnt helped me much in getting closer to a plan, although i have a better understanding. Also considering the guys from Livestruck.

Any comments will help! :)

I used the program found at Begginer Tri Athlon. It worked well for me.

I used Going Long and built a program around it.

Work on your weak points. This race is about the run. The swim is the warm-up, the bike is about saving your legs for the run, then the race really starts on the 2nd half of the run.

I swam twice (or thice) a week, did one IDT and one longish bike a week, and ran 4 - 5 times a week and it worked out perfectly.

The Livestruck guys are a really great crowd and Stu is a good all round guy, but if you want to race I suggest finding a racier crowd.

If you want a program I can help you with an excel spreadsheet I used.

Hi Mrmed

I am definitely looking to race. obviously taking into consideration that it would be my first and that i have loads to learn. i am prepared to do the work, just need to ensure that i am doing the right thing.

if you could send me the spreadsheet then it would be great. i will then try and adapt where possible.

Was thinking of joining Stu and the crew, just to ensure that i have the support but i see he is not doing the ironman again next year.

will send you a PM with my email adress.

thanks again

There are many guys on this forum that have finished Im and will give advice.

Get a swim coach to help with your swim stroke in winter and so that you can get stronger.

Also get started with the running and use the next few winter months to get fit and stronger so that you can run 20km easy at the end of September and then the quality work starts.

Never mind the guy in the slops. There were 2 guys running barefoot. I passed the one kaalvoet klonkie and he said that he also runs comrades kaalvoet. I asked if he would sign my bum but he declined the offer!

thanks for the advice gummibear. I am currently seeing a swimming coach and it is going well. I have started the running training, and then the usual 4-5 times a week on the bike.

the real reason why i am asking is to understand how to break my workload down and into what type of sessions. hopefully "going long" will give me some more insight, almost done with it. dont want to put in the effort just to find out 6 months from now that i have been doing the wrong thing

will call on our advice in the future if you dont mind
