Ok Imma hav to print all this out and come to a conclusion on what to eat.

Now another question: In the long run does starving yourself work? I've heard mixed stories...

@Cervelo: what's your weight?

I'm a 176cm and weight around 86-89kg, and I don't feel tired or as if I'm carrying excess fat

p.s I roughly consume 2-3l of water per day, more during workouts and outrides during weekends

Depends on what type of results you are looking for. If you want to die, then yes that will work! "Starving" yourself slows your metabolism down because your body doesn't know when the next meal is coming. If your goal is to lose weight then train hard in the morning on an empty stomach to increase your resting metabolic rate. You need to eat the right type of food to make up your calories as well.

Ideally you need to eat a balanced diet of protien, carbs, veges and fruit with enough water daily. To lose weight reduce the calories. To gain weight increase calories. You also need a cheat meal once a week so you don't go crazy!

See a dietician.

Nope, without enough carbs, everything else(protein) will be used for carbs. And you won't recover. then, if that is not enough, your body will turn to muscle for energy...

Ok, so that confirms by belief of "starving yourself slows metabolism" theory that I've always practised.

Balanced diet: check

How about training in the afternoon after work on an empty stomach? Then replenashing the calories....

I tend to snack on a few dried peaches when peckish, and it doubles as a metabolism booster

I have also taken to riding in the afternoon....before dinner though, so I would also like to know the answer

I'm very happy I've elliminated: chips, fizzy drinks, take aways (still consume once or twice a month) bread / rolls (still working on whole wheat), cookies, choc, and I'm doing my best to get rid of mayo, ketchup and aromat. I've been successful at regular water intake at around 2-3l per day

I have also cut out on Simba type chips and fizzy drinks, eat low GI bread (about 25% of what I used to eat), have one type of carb per meal. I will have a McDonalds chicken burger once a week after band practice with my mates, normally with OJ or a Chai Latte...

I do not take seconds, don't eat sweets and like water, so to change my eating habits has basically meant to eat a lot less.

I am losing at between 1,5 -2 kg per month

Key objective - maintain correct blood sugar levels:

1. Remove all sugar from your life - all of it. Become a sugar nazi.

2. Eat regularly through the day - small meals every 2 hours - all low GI with right mix of lean protein, fresh fruit and vegies. Do not starve yourself!

[Edit] 3. Eat fewer calories than you burn.

This looks like a summary of everything being said on here

The only sugar intake I have is fruit juices, fresh fruit.

I don't drink coffee or tea so that's not a problem....

I think I may be onto something here....
