Hey forum,

I'm more then willing to attempt a MTB race with a friend, nothing hectic one day race to feel for the sport (something coming up beginning April)

I know about the difference in gear and bikes

Any tips from ppl here?

Has anyone done a transition of such sort?

*wondering*

I have found that 40 km on MTB is the equivalent of around 60-70km on a road bike, with similar vertical ascents. I recently started riding my MTB offroad.

The killer on a MTB is the terrain, your body does take a bit of a hammering, and going uphill on loose gravel can be taxing at best.

I attempted MTB a few times, didn't really enjoy the technical stuff..

I'm afraid I'll like it more then being a roadie, as I love the 'technical stuff' and getting involved in the whole works :D and then my wallet will go on a diet

Everyone starts out being a roadie and then many find it boring after a while& thus the change to MTB..

Some like it and some don't

I'm still loving being a roadie though

thats why you become a roadie in summer and a mountain goat in the winter

Could not agree more.

I keep both going throughout these days, but the focus still shift when the early morning darkness pushes me back in to bed in winter

nothing beats hooking that low range gear combo to do that climb at snail pace, especially when you have to balance your weight between not lifting the front wheel while maintaining sufficient traction on those loose stuff (or avoiding wheel spin.

then there is that hair raising fast descents, dodging rocks and keeping the wheels on the ground.

Then when the going gets easy again, you pop that wheelie for a good 200m untill that side wind tells you it's a good time to put it down now :-)

Road riding makes you focus a lot on your stats and physical and mental strength and how far you can still go or willing to go.

Riding off-road completely shifts that focus to the fun side of cycling and you feel like a kid. Those short adrenalin bursts are awesome.

I have the same amount of fun as with my Honda Africa Twin when riding off-road.

I am a roadie that also just started the Mtb thing, man I must say its allot of fun, for all the reasons listed above and it is a much harder workout than your typical road ride.

Loving it but still the love the road as well.

I'm keeping my road bike as well, but will concentrate on my mtb more.

I need to train!!

Today I have purchased a Giant Anthem X3 for a reasonable price

Trying it out tomorrow :-)
