What happens When you kill a cyclist

You guys all know what I am going to say. I am a vengeful SOB. For society to function properly, punishment for crimes of commission and negligence is absolutely necessary. Even the best of us will find it hard to obey the laws without an external locus of control. I would not put up with any of that.

Bonkolo, who was granted R1000 bail on December 10 last year, pleaded guilty to murder and driving under the influence of alcohol. The level of alcohol in his blood was found to be about five times the legal limit of 0.05g per 100ml when the accident happened in Admiralty Road, Summerstrand.

 

He said it was a tragedy that had not only changed the lives of the Krugers, but also of his client, who was unable to sleep at night and drank excessively thereafter.

Apparently 'lost dockets' is a service some police officers offer for a fee. I can't remember what they charged but it was R2 000 or R5 000 or so - something affordable anyhows. If you don't pay the fee then at mimimum you should get an involentary manslaughter record if you did not hing wrong, culpapble homocide if you were at fault and murder if there was any hint of intent. What the senctences will be will depend on the judge and the circumstances.

Have just read this: The KwaZulu-Natal acting director of public prosecutions is considering an appeal following the acquittal handed down to a Durban motorist who was charged with the culpable homicide of a cyclist.

The same thing happened in the Western Cape recently with the guy whole killed a cyclist just before the ARGUS five years ago. Lets hope they can make both cases stick.
