Just on the subject of the gears. I am trying to figure setting it myself out and I am almost there. With the Shimano trigger shifters, is there any way one kan make it "tighter" so that it doesn't go through 2 clicks on it's own?

Short answer: I dunno.

Shifter (just the shifter, not the system) problems are 99% of the time, dirt related. Try the obvious first. Q20 and all that.

Scuzzy are you talking about the "double shift" that you can do with the righthand index finger shift on the XTR (and i think XT) shifters??? If this is what you are talking about you cant change the double shift option on the shifter by doing something to the system ... HOWEVER ... i do know that the pros have been able to reduce the shift to a single click by opening the shifter up and adding in a small ball bearing/spacer into the shift mechanism to stop the lever from engaging the 2nd shift. This was done by my mate who mechs for the Mondraker DH team on the world cup - but i am not sure of what spacer he used etc. - But it is possible by bushmechanic!
