What can I change on my hardtail mountain bike to have a smoother ride.Riding the tourdurban. PLEASE HELP

Put slicks on. Nothing else will smooth your ride, unless you put on a suspension seatpost, but that would be over kill.

Saddle, that will help quite a bit.

Bibs, better quality bibs help an awesome amount.

You can also put on bigger volume tyres, like 2.4 width will also make it a bit more comfy.

Tour Durban has a MTB race this year. I don't think putting slicks on is going got help if that's the event in question. :lol:

In terms off service eg.new bearings etc.

So you're not looking to upgrade / change anything, just looking to make your current bike ride as smooth as possible?

Drop the rear tyre pressure a bit. That makes a huge difference on a hard tail. Also helps with grip in the technical stuff. Just my 2c worth, it is what I do. Cheers :thumbup:

Well in that case you can either take your bike in to a local bike shop and get a major service done / if you're clued up you can do it yourself. The major service would cover stripping and re-assembling the major components to ensure everything is running smoothly.

 

At the very least give your bike a good clean and make sure your drive train is well lubed up on race day.

Hi Joshua

I have newish Tranz X suspension seatpost for a couple of bob. Works very well. Certainly makes a HUGE diff. Reason for getting rid of it - got a Trans today. Woweeeeeee.................
