Hello and greetings everyone

My name is jack and I'm from England. Though i am lucky enough to have a place in Cape Town also. I love South Africa.

I have a passion for restoring old school Raleigh bicycles, especially the ones from the 70's & 80's. I have a varied collection of bikes from Raleigh Grifters, Choppers, Commando's, Burner BMX's, Bombers and including ones from South Africa too. If you have the same passion as me, then why don't you come along and check out the site. Its free to join. I would love to know if anyone has any information with regards to the Raleigh factory that was once in "Springs"?

cheers

Jack

"hijack" .. oh, not like that ok Hi, Jack :)

Welcome to the hub. YOu might have to wait till the morning to get some responses. Most of the peeps are on during the day. There are some really knowledgeable folk on here you should be able to take you in the right direction.

Be prepared to take some flak, as some folk are not all the keen on the raleighs.

My first road bike was a Raleigh Carlton. It was quite decent with reynolds tubing and a lightweight groupset, but not in the league of the "TI" range. I've tried to go through old catalogs but cant seem to find it listed anywhere. I think it was a UK import as I doubt if the locally produced bikes had anything more than cotter pin cranks.

My first BMX was also a burner, but once I started racing I upgraded to something that was less of an anchor. Would love to have the burner back though.

Hi Velo, I have been looking through my archives and i have found some catalogues from the early 70's showing the Carlton range. You never know it may depict the bike you had all those years ago? I hope they help?

Hey, welcome Jack. On the Boxers' handlebars ... is that a radio? And that Vektar is the freakiest thing that could only come the 80s. Viva Tron, Viva! What did the "computer" do? Same functions as today's computers?
