Hi Guys

My tubeless conversion keeps burping out and costing me a lot more money than it should be! I recently changed the back rim from getto to stans rim strips. My Back rim is a 26" Macic 317DSICand the tyre is a KENDA NEVEGAL I feel I cant trust the back tyre and I am trying to debate whether to replace the tyre with a UST tyre. Will I be able to put a UST tyre onto this rim? I cant see why not but I am not always right :S

I like doing jumps and like to push myself a little more every time so is this a wise decision to change my back tyre to a UST one with this rim? Also what UST tyre would you recommend for my bike?I am ridding a Giant trance x2 so its a l trail bike Using stans sealant.

As always and comments will be greatly appreciated!

Get yourself a pair of Maxxis Crossmark LUST, you will not be sorry!! Relatively cheap, excellent allrounder, last extremely long.

There are certain tyre & rim combinations that just does not want to work ptoperly...do some research.

Start at the Stans website - I recall they j=\have a long list of tyre & rims that work well ans some that do not go well together. Good luck!

I also ride a Trance with Nevegals on Mavic 317 rims but with slime tubes.

Firstly, the (non-tubeless) Nevegals are a fairly loose fit on the 317's and I doubt that it is possible to get a really reliable seal with any tubeless conversion of this combination. Secondly, the riding that you describe (jumps, drops, rough stuff) will sometimes make even the best tubeless set-up burp especially if you run low pressures. Ask yourself why the downhillers and dirt jumpers don't use tubeless.

For myself, I figured that tubeless is too much hassle on my Trance and for the kind of riding that I do.

The Mavic 317 has a swallow rim bead, and requires a tyre with a proper tubeless bead to seat properly. My advice is to get a tubeless tyre, which is way cheaper than replacing the rim with a tubeless rim such as American Cclassic or Easton. Inflating that tyre to 4bar and then reducing the presure to 2.5 or 3 bar will not solve the problem, and you are always going to wait for the next burp.

Hey guys thanks for all the comments and recommendations. I bought 2 Mavic crossmark lust UST tyres and put one on the back and can happily report back that its running awesome :) road both fountains and groenkloof and did a few big jumps and heavily lands without losing any tire air through the side walls! They also hold really nicely compared to my KENDA NEVEGAL tyres before.

Unfortunely normal Nevegals aren't all that great to run tubeless. The sidewalls are very thin firstly, but more importantly they don't seat very tightly on most rims.

I put UST Nevegals (ghetto) on my own bike at the beginning of the year, and two weeks ago did a ghetto on my brother's bike with a normal Nevegal on the rear. No comparison, it was an absolute mission to get the normal one to hold air, there were just leaks everywhere initially. After one or two rides and a lot of sloshing around of Stan's, it now seems OK. The UST ones on the other hand were perfect right away.

Go to Mavic websitre and cehck out tyre /rim compatability...

Just been looking at the Mavic website and can't seem to find the tyre/rim compatability checking system your'e talking about. Could you please supply a link to the page :)
