Had the same dis a few months ago.

Hans Stijdom PTA East - 3 km on 3.x%

Hills near my home (all in Silverton area):

5% for 600 meters

7.5% for 450 meters

9% for 400 meters

then a 4.5% for 1.5 km.

That is some of the hills I can ride...

Heh, in Melville there's 4th that'll hit more than 18%.  But it's only 200 meters long, or less.  The pavement by the road has been replaced with stairs.  Fun to try seated.

You can do laps there, of 200 to 400 meter hills > 10%.  Less than 2 mins. a hill.

Hmm, I won't even dare to try those hills at the moment.  I would rather go jogging on those hills

There are no individually bad hills in Johannesburg' date=' but when I lived there, this was my favourite training ride (starting in Greenside). The cumulative effect makes this a good ride: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Phil-Billy-Special

Click on 'Show' then 'Elevation Profile' in the top left corner of the map to see the climbing[/quote']

Link doesn;t appear to be working.... it says "loading map" but then zip happens...clicked on Show then says "done but wit errors on page" in the status bar...

I guess without alp-scale elevations the only way to do serious hill training in the Cape Peninsula is to a) do repeats or b) aim for all the hills or both a) and b).

Ou Kaaps from the steep (Westlake) side is 320m so x2 + chappies (260m) + black hill (110m?) = +-1000m. Alternatively to get past the 1000m mark you can do Red Hill (260m) x4.

Another nice ride is to just try do all the hills south of Hout Bay -

Chappies 260m

Ou Kaaps 320m

Boyes Drive - about 120m

Black Hill - about 110m

Da Gama Park from Glencairn - about 220m

The Wall (love this old navy road - watch out for snakes - nearly 20% at the end) about 200m

Red Hill 260m

Slangkop - about 130m

Smitswinkel Bay - about 150m

If you're town side Cable Station from either Camps Bay High or the city bowl (340 - 360m) is a killer steep ride. I reckon it averages around 10% +

Kloof nek to Cable car average is 8.6%. The reason it is only 8.6% is cause it flattens out once you turn left to go to the cable car. Some sections on Kloof are 18% but very short on some of the corners. I do all my intervals and VAM tests on that climb

I am less scientific, I just try to follow Charles Keey whilst concentrating on not puking. It's a long term project with a very low success rate thus far :)
