Are we getting acceptable levels of service and professionalism from race organisers? How do we hold them accountable if they do not provide acceptable service, after already having paid race entry fees?

Two examples:

1) Honda Mountain Trophy:

After spending an hour driving to the well advertised registration, I am told the race numbers are not available but can be collected on Saturday before the race. Guess why I went to register early? The cost of entering the race has just skyrocketed if I include my time and kms to not get a race number.

2) MTN MTB Nationals:

The log with the series standings has not yet been published once, race 5 is next weekend. (I am not going to win, but would like to see how I am doing compared to last year). This is part of what the series offers and I believe we are not getting the value as advertised.

Organisers, we are doing this for fun, but this does not mean we should not receive value, service and professionalism. We do, after all, pay the full price for the product you sell and should receive exactly what was advertised.

Yep, agreed. It seems that the organizers are very quick to grab the cash but do not consider the participants and the costs of doing these events (Don't only mean the costs of the entry but travel etc.) With a recent road ride in Durban one could not collect ones race number (a piece of paper for goodness sake!!) on the morning of the race but had to travel all the way to Gateway in Umhlanga to get it. Luckily for me a kind hubber offered to collect my number, which saved me a 230km return trip, never mind the 200km return trip I did on the day of the race.

Jislaaik but 1 litre petrol is almost as much as 2 L Coke...

Is there not a simpler way of getting this race number, such as email or post? Do the organizers think that everyone that does an event lives within minutes of the start/registration? We live in a world of amazing technology, why do we not use it?

As far as "goody" bags go what is wrong with collecting them after the race if not collected at "registration".

Tour Durban ended up being very nice with full road closure and a lekker route, with organization I saw being very good. However I feel organizers should really consider those doing the events and make a plan stan... at the end of the day they are there to provide a service to the participants.

Events/Races are not exactly cheap either! No more goody bags....not even a safety pin. Are events organized in the interest of the sport or has it like everything else, become another money spinner? Yes, we are paying for a service and if I personally dont get value for money....I just wont support that event again!

Seen this one before, doubt it'll ever go away.

like all markets you get good and bad service. it's my observation that cost of race does little to guarantee quality of service.

ps. you missed a trick with the title, should read "race disorganisers"
