Joe Low Posted May 11, 2011 Share Just out of interest and to save further spoiling the Best Buy for a Beginner thread. To me its the silliest term in cycling but I could be out of step with popular opinion. Knobbymech had asked Eccentric to come up with another name for it - So I thought I'd have a think before realising I've never had a reason to refer to it before. I would probably say "the bit between the handlebars" if pushed into a corner or waterboarded. Anyway on with the Biggles helmet, climb into the cockpit and chocs away for this exciting poll. TNT1 Posted May 11, 2011 Share Yeah, even though I admitted to shaving my balls yesterday, I can't bring myself to refer to the bit of handlebar around the stem as anything fowl related.

MTBer wannabee Posted May 11, 2011 Share I think it is fair to say that 29ers can have a cockpit.(thats a joke by the way) what does wikipedea say, they know everything.
LeTurbo Posted May 11, 2011 Share Blame Bike Snob. He used it for his "Cockpit of the Year" competition, but I sense his tongue was firmly in his cheek as always. Irony is, however, lost on most people. Perhaps an alternative could be "Cyclopsphere", being the region of the bicycle where the one-eye trouser-snake lives - or is that only relevant to TNT1? The "Torsostretch", perhaps?

KnobbyMech Posted May 11, 2011 Share Seems like there are some varied perceptions here. The way I understand it, a bike "cockpit" is that which relates to the handlebar, stem and stem height from bottom Aheadset bearing. It relates to it's lengths and angles. With other words, what you steer with. I would agree that there must be a more appropriate name. I far as I understand it has nothing to do with saddle or top tube. I do not care what you call that part. Edited May 11, 2011 by KnobbyMech
Eldron Posted May 11, 2011 Share I think it is fair to say that 29ers can have a cockpit.(thats a joke by the way) what does wikipedea say, they know everything. So 26er cockpits are just called pits? That does explain a lot
