Eldron Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Seems like there is some varied perceptions here. The way I understand it, a bike "cockpit" is that which relates to the handlebar, stem and stem height from bottom Aheadset bearing. It relates to it's lengths and angles. With other words, what you steer with. I would agree that there must be a more appropriate name. I far as I understand it has nothing to do with saddle or top tube. I do not care what you call that part. This is confusing - I always thought cockpit referred to bars, stem, seat and seat post. Much like a cockpit in an aircraft...
HowellingWulf Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 So 26er cockpits are just called pits? That does explain a lot ..and 29ers only called cocks. Sure does explain a lot
Cycho Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 This is confusing - I always thought cockpit referred to bars, stem, seat and seat post. Much like a cockpit in an aircraft... agreed... i think some manufacturers use the name to group these specific components? Think its a little 90's though
Joe Low Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 Ok then Flightdeck - I like cuz its silly but not as silly Other possibilities: Control CentreMission HQThe Bar-room But I'm gonna call mine: Downtown As in - "hey Chuck, we're goin too fast; I gotta be in HRZ2, am gonna check....Downtown" (looks at handlebars).
KnobbyMech Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 ..and 29ers only called cocks. Sure does explain a lot  This is an interesting tread. PLEASE gents, lets not make it just another us vs you tread. Let's just all be cyclist for one day. The roadies must have picked up 20kg from all the popcorn, watching us fellow mtbers at each other. I AM GETTING GATVOL OFF IT!!!
Eldron Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 ..and 29ers only called cocks. Sure does explain a lot  Better being called a cock than cockless any day of the week! It sure does explain why 26ers ride like girls...mwaahahahahaha. Oh this is silly. It's the frikkin triathletes that we should be insulting
Big H* Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 The Cockies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was on an Arabic cycling forum the other day and they call it: ميدان مصارعة الديكة No, that means "spanish blood sport" or "bullfighting"

Eldron Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 +1 He-he. Sadly - like most of us - I am a roadie. And single speeder. And duathlete. And 26" rider. And time triallist. Triathletes are the only people I have left to hate
Minion Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Much like a cockpit in an aircraft...With amount of gadgets you can stick on your handlebars these days, the two are becoming more alike.

Eldron Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 26" road bike? Outstanding! Way to remain a purist. 29ers are so mainstream these days I'm considering putting a 650B rear wheel on my 29er so I can be unique again. 7.5niner baby!
