  1. 1. Is it fair enough to refer to the area between the handlebars and saddle as a "cockpit"

Seems like there is some varied perceptions here.

The way I understand it, a bike "cockpit" is that which relates to the handlebar, stem and stem height from bottom Aheadset bearing. It relates to it's lengths and angles. With other words, what you steer with. I would agree that there must be a more appropriate name.

I far as I understand it has nothing to do with saddle or top tube. I do not care what you call that part.

This is confusing - I always thought cockpit referred to bars, stem, seat and seat post. Much like a cockpit in an aircraft...

Other possibilities:

But I'm gonna call mine: Downtown

As in - "hey Chuck, we're goin too fast; I gotta be in HRZ2, am gonna check....Downtown" (looks at handlebars).

Sadly - like most of us - I am a roadie. And single speeder. And duathlete. And 26" rider. And time triallist.

Triathletes are the only people I have left to hate :(

With amount of gadgets you can stick on your handlebars these days, the two are becoming more alike.

26" road bike? Outstanding! Way to remain a purist.

29ers are so mainstream these days I'm considering putting a 650B rear wheel on my 29er so I can be unique again. 7.5niner baby!
