From there the routes follow the old Hex River Pass railway line (through a tunnel romantically lit by candles!) towards Matroosberg station, returning with a different route to De Doorns. The long route is tough with lots of climbing and should only be attempted by fit, experienced riders. The medium route follows most of the long route except for one tough hilly loop. Both routes include great footpath sections. The short route is an enjoyable funride over mostly flat terrain and is suitable for the novice rider. DIRECTIONS TO VENUEFrom Cape Town, follow the N1 past Worcester to De Doorns. Take the De Doorns turn-off (30km past Worcester) and carry on for 400m before turning left into the De Doorns High School premises. NOTESThis event has been called “A great ride with some magic scenery; smooth and flowing and well marked,” by participants. All routes run through Karoo succulent veld with a scenic view over the Hex Valley and its mountains. Standard PPA entry fees will be charged, except for the 15km, which can be entered at a discounted rate. All children u/10 must be accompanied by an adult.Go to Event Page

Jaco-fiets Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 In my opinion this is the best organised race on the calender. You have great route markings, regular distance indicators and ample waterpoints. The distance is also as they claim and not 5km or so longer. The locals are great and very hospitable. I missed last year but i will be there this year. Cpt_stu 1

Ek sal maar vir jou 'n medalje hou..... ja daa is nogal so effense stuk single track waar daar NET links van jou 'n moerse stuk afgrond is...mens moet mooi ry daar..daars nie 'n heining of iets op daai stukkie nie..aan die regter kant het jy die treinspoor! so val ma op jou kop NA daai stukkie net nie VOOR nie! teen daai tyd was dit al payday so ja ek sal baadjie he...no thanks..ek sal my eie medal kom haal!

Musashi Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Excellent race. IIRC last year the mountains were snow-capped, but it was a cool sunny day and no wind. Absolute brilliant!
