Hello Hubbers

As my heading explains, I've read a few articles on the net explaining composites and epoxys and I've decided to build my own Carbon 29er. Considering that the only part of a bike that is 'manufacturer specific' is the frame.

I also want to document my progress through this, or another website. It will probably take about 3 to 4 months of construction because I want everything to be right as far as strength, geometry and cost is concerned.

(Any input in this field is welcome)

I have designed the bike already and anybody is free to see the rough artwork if you are interested please contact me.

The reason I have started this topic is to look for any type of sponsorship as far as parts are concerned. Any old Aluminium frames, groupsets, cranks or other related products that might be lying around in the garage.

This is not a ploy to get free stuff, but more of a request for assistance in this big project. If anybody's interested in joining this project I live in Durbanville ,Cape Town and you can contact me castaway1@xsinet.co.za

You must know what you are doing, cause I sure as hell wouldn't build my own frame. When I am doing 50km/h down a piece of dirt track on my mtb I want to know that there has been some considerable effort gone into the production of the frame so that it doesn't break beneath me. I commend you on your task and if you decide to use another link to report your progress please let us know as I will be looking out for it. This is definately one I am going to watch. Once again good luck and I will be watching your progress with much anticipation.

This is true,I can't agree more. Trust me I've gone to alot of trouble and research before I posted this. I will be the one testing it and know that when CF fails it fails CATASTROPHICALLY!

Good luck. Maybe you should go ahead with that Medical Aid top up plan you have been delaying. Keep us posted on your progress.

This sounds like an interesting project.

I am with Top Fuel in that I wouldn't want to discover a design flaw when hurtling down some gnarly single track.

Definitely interesting in watching this progress. Good luck.

Why not post the artwork so long then we can get a better idea on tips etc. and supplies you may need. Will you be going hardtail or dual suspension?

Awesome buddy, the world needs pioneers like you. I wish you success and may the project bring you rewards.

You should try something new. The Ibis design has been around for 5 years if not longer.

I agree but the strut is there for strength and support, ibis didn't put it there for show, So neither am I.

That is the only similarity, also My tube profile is Tri-lobal and about 45-50mm in diameter.
