We truly have some very generous and helpful people in our sport ( Mtb ).

Went riding on Saturday at Groenies with a good mates and after the first lap we hit the second one with some vigor , about 3km in my excitement out did my riding ability and managed to dent my rear rim so badly that it folded the rim bead flat and blew the rear tire off. Now only ever riding with plugs and no spare tube ( never needed more than this till now ) I was in a pickle.

This is where Evan comes to my story . We passed this gent earlier and had a friendly wave and jester for letting us go buy, he then passed us ( me ) stranded and asked if all was ok , clearly the rim could not be bent back ( although we had come up with some silly ideas ) . We said not to worry we will be ok.

A few minutes later Evan comes riding back up the path and hands me a tube saying this may help ( which it did , managed to keep riding for the day )

Evan you are a true ambassador to this sport as well as a gentlemen , thank you and I now carry a spare tube so I can repay the favor to you. If anyone knows Evan please let me know, he is a elderly gent in green kit who says he rides at groenies often(think he was on a HT Merida ).

Regards and thank you again from the gents in the Lake Shimano kit.

But Iron - Evan rode back the wrong way along the path to bring us the tube - surely we should crucify and presecute him :D

I have to add my thanks - Evan you saved us a rather long and unpleasant walk back to the car. If you read this please drop us a PM and we'll glady buy you a beer!

Iron - you're a monster - how exactly do you pretzel a back wheel on a duallie? Must be the little wheels he he he.

I think i need to brush up on those "skills" of mine . oh and on that note: and if i remember the little wheels were ahead of the big wheels most of the time :P

Shoe where in Groenies did this happen ?

Not knowing the place that well , it was the fast single track section near the start that runs down past the fence after the first lot of single you come out onto a steep jeep track with humps on it that drop down about 500m them you hook right towards the fence up past the fence then down again there some where ( lots of rocks ) ,

this makes no sense to me so hope it helps you.

The part after you cross the wooden bridge it seems ?

I rode there on Sat afternoon, quite a few rocks there so denting a rim is quite easy going down there with your eyes watering

Hook a right next time where the short climb next to fence is and go up that singletrack, very narrow so watch out if you have narrow bars. Theres a short rise on that track I've not managaged to get up yet. Trying to balance my weight distribution but its so short and sharp and over loose earth and rocks I end up lifting my front wheel and veering to the side each time.

rest of it is lekker flowing with a few small drop-ins, just be carefull as there is lots of glass there and I got a small cut in my tyre tread I had to plug, also scrathced the tyre sidewall.

Oh and lastly I see fees are going up 11th July I think, personally I think thats a bit stupid, after the increase to R25 they started maintaining trails and built more so they better improve upon that ! I'm not subsidising the bunch that litter and disturb the peace partying in fountains

Oh boy - are the spelling nazis even highlighting letters typed the wrong way around now?

C'mon - you gotta have something more interesting to do with your life than be the self appointed spell checker on thehub?

I'm fairly sure this is the way we went on lap 1. It wasn't intentional but lap 1 seemed to be us turning right all the time and lap 2 left.

Man I love that place.

Suikerbosrand for the road bike, Groenies for the mtb - who says Jhb is a *** place to ride a bicycle???

I was actually focussing on the positive potential of the spelling.....

I will give you a minute to get the knot out of your knickers then :)

If you were trying to turn a thank you thread into a who wants to shag Liz Hatch thread then my bad... My unreserved apologies for twising me knicks.
