I purchased a set of kenda Nevgals for wine to whales nov last year and the tread on the rear is gone. Now i like these tyres cause in 3 years of riding i have never ever had a puncture. They are heavy and slow but basically bullet proof. i hardly ever ride on road mainly tokai, jonkershoek type riding and i never drag my back wheel. I have now gone thru 2 rear tyres in a year of riding the front one is still perfect. Is this normal?? Is the rubber compound soft on this make or do mtb tyres especially the rear wear out after 8 months of riding? i ride about 2 - 3 times a week .

All depends on compound. Conti Black Chilli is very soft and wears quick. Maxxis 62tpi tyres lasts much longer. But you sacrifice grip the harder the compound.

Excessive wear may be due to windgatheid...

Seriously the compound plays a big part in conjunction with the tread pattern. There has to be a trade off somewhere. :(

Geax Saguaros....a mate of mine has had her back tyre for nearly 2 years and she rides a lot.

She's also had like zero punctures.

Im sold. Maybe kenda's changed their compound?

Kenda Nevgals - I had these tyres and ran tubes at the time - I had many punctures. Your lack of punctures is purely luck or where you ride, and nothing to do with the tyre itself.

I run them tubeless with slime and i ride very hectic stuff including the grape escape where half the field had punctures, cant be luck im not that lucky.

I run Race Kings front and back. The rear does wear quicker and 6 months sounds about right. I like grip up front so in order to keep the tyre with the most wear on the back, I move the front tyre to the back and replace the front tyre with a new one. Works well.

Ok as long as thats normal so basically i will be changing tyre's every year.

Maxxis crossmark. Latest about 2 years for me. I rode it till it was dead. Used my bike at least 4 times a week. A little bit of tar 10%, and then most of it offroad 90%.

I wasnt worried about the wear, only replaced once a bubble appeared where it became thin to the canvas underneath. Caused an un-natural bounce when cycling

Crossmark LUST's are quite bullet proof. Know a friend that has done at least 2000km on a set including allot of road cycling.
